The fine is a pittance. The assaulted woman was dragged to the door (By the hair?) and her glasses (value between $280 and $600) were smashed.

The photographer gets punched in the face. What damage was caused to the camera gear?

The photographer gets no payment for her broken glasses. She gets nothing, no repartion.

The criminal was a senior member of the group. Why didn't anyone in the room intervene? Does she have a history of aggression and bullying group members?

The victim gets a right effing-over then the stupid judge decides to flip her over and do it again to her. I would be right aggrieved if this happened to me.
I was the victim of a similar offence. The offender just got a small fine, taxpayer funded of course.

What appalled me about the whole story was the judges reasoning for the fine...

"He fined Rangiataawa $200 to cover police costs in investigating the assault and arresting her. "

    .... and the victim??

solo mum, on benefit 5 kids 3 g kids. the media are revealing to us that she has had a fucked up life, getting banged like a whore and treated like shit by men. she liekly has been on a benefit for most if not all of her baby making career, and some of her kids are not yet 18.
the low fine is based purely on her income vs expenses, a poor decision by a judge, who was probably looking at a leathery, weather worn old womans face in the dock, yes a hard life.....
the moment of clear insanity was an explosion of psychotic emotion due to a serious backlog of many years of neglect and abuse, by most likely, the males in her life.
yes its possible she also has a dependancy on some form of drugs, if i was a judge i would be taking that into account.
for example, she smokes, well how does she afford it on a benefit with many kids, a sign of repeating the cycle of neglect. yes she drinks or smokes pot. perhaps a test for schitzophrenia is required or bi-polar. as soon as someone is charged with such an offense, a blood test should be mandatory.
the victim perhaps has pyschological scarring for life now. i wonder what benefits she will be entitled to now that she is too scared to work, or perhaps leave the safety of her front door?.

A good post but I liked this part ....

    Like in so many situations...

The all too regular kiddie killings, Waitangi Day Commemoration "protests," just to name a few.....
