That is why they are not evidential. Those ones the air is from the lungs.

I don't know what those machines that you can buy to test yourself are like but I would be gutted if I used one that said sweet to drive, then get stopped and fail an evidential breath test.

yeah yeah I know shouldn't drink drive and all but some peeps try and be responsible and all
The "passive" is the one that you state your name into (mouth presence? but speaking air comes from the lungs....?)

THe next one is the screening test - blow into the mouthpiece - ie: lungs again.... which is an indication of where your level will be (fail general = over 400, fail youth over 150 - under 400 and pass is fine - under 150....)

The machine is the eveidential one, which gives an actual reading of your breath alcohol level.

As for the ones you can buy, they would not be any defence if you passed on it and got stopped just down the road and failed on the "gazetted/approved" devices.

Well you may need to read a bit closer. Ever heard of case law? Not all cops know what they are doing. I have seen many a cop make mistakes based on what they think is right but they are not correct in either law or policy. They are fallable too.

Doesn't mean the cop was right at all now does it.

In either case, I still came back as under the adult limit.
