    PC Virus Alert

    Confirmed Virus Alert

These virus Emails typically have subjects similar to the following: "*WARNING* YOUR EMAIL ACCOUNT WILL BE CLOSED", "*DETECTED* Online User Violation", "YOUR EMAIL ACCOUNT IS SUSPENDED FOR SECURITY REASONS", and "ACCOUNT ALERT".

Mail will have a Zip file attached. These are not genuine and the zip file contains a virus. Do not open, delete upon receipt. I've received 4 so far today.

    Bastards.

I got one last week supposedly from my ISP with the attachment. It said 'Please unzip this application and read the instructions' upon which unstuffing it, it'd probably just fuk your computer up. I opened it. I'm on a mac. Macs are good. Switch to mac.

Unless you download the Microsoft Word Trial installer...
    Nice little Trojan.

BTW we Mac users can still spread viruses even though we're unaffected by them.

Back when I played games like California Games, Death Track and Prince of Persia, the virus checkers we had THEN had a virus list of 8 or 10 virusus! Boy, how times have changed!

About time to install a rubber filter between the phone jack and line socket!

    M$ $uck.
I know that we can still carry viruses etc, but it's our lack of caring that sets us apart..

Thanks Biff. Think Dad's had this one.

Had the "Trojan.ByteVerfy" earlier this week, but it was easy to get rid of. Turned the "Windows XP System Restore" off. Started PC in "Safe Mode". Scaned with "Nortons". Deleted all detected files. Restarted PC and turn the "Windows XP System Restore" back on. Up and running again no probems.

Don't know about you, but if the sender does not idenify themselves as some I might know I "Bounce" the e-mail back (I use Incredimail).
    They reconn it does this:
Q: What is a 'bounce email' and how do I do it?

A: A junk mail sender (a.k.a. spammer) sends unsolicited mail to active email addresses on its mailing list. In order to trick spammers into thinking that your email address is not active, IncrediMail has created a feature called "Bounce Emails", which enables you to send a 'fake' bounce message to the sender. Thus, the "spammer" is led to believe that the email account is inactive or unrecognized by the server, and in many cases will remove your address from its mailing list. In other words, when you bounce an email there is a good chance that you will no longer receive junk mail from that specific spammer.

So if any of you are trying to e-mail me please ID yourself or you might find your e-mail gets returned.

There is a trick to getting no spam at all. One of the best ideas I ever had.

Use spam@yourdomainhere.com as your primary account. Spammers aren't stupid enough to send spam there. I went from a few thousand emails a day down to 4 emails a day (and legit ones at that) just by doing that. Also having the server auto-delete all attachments saves you a tonne of trouble.

If you can handle the instructions to install it, K9 from keir.net is a great anti spam tool. You have to teach it what is spam, but it doesnt take long and its very very accurate.

I have to admit I am bemused by the number of people who get spam, and how much they get.

I use my uni mail and gmail, and when I first started with gmail there were a couple, but now none.

I use my computer heaps, and only really have nortons to protect it (and sometimes use Ad-Aware Pro)... doing IT I should know better....

I don't get any spam, well not to my 'proper' email addresses anyway. I use a hotmail account for signing up to anything online and ignore everything that goes there, save for activation links. And believe it or not I don't visit porn sites either. Seen 327 seen them all. And I use cookie blockers, firewalls and various other tools in an attempt to protect me from nasty bugs. I even have my pc wrapped up in a condom.

Apart from the condom, I'm exactly the same. Well, apart from I don't visit half the sites the mighty Biff would...
