    Re-vinning bike

Im looking at a bike on trademe that has been for a wee swim....consequently it was written off due to water damage.
Supposedly it runs alright & had oil & filters replaced & I would look at doing the wheel & steering head bearings myself, but would any repairs done to it, have to be done by a qualified mechanic with accompaning paper work & receipts on parts, to keep the certifier happy?
Or would I get away with turning up with the parts receipts......& a bike in WOF condition.
Is there anything else you folk think would be necessary to do to it...?
    Cheers...

I would be incline to look at it first hand or get some-one other than the seller too look at it for you,

key question is has the motor been flushed out?.(kerosene is great for it but needs to be done asap)..as just changing the oil and filters wont remove all the water from within the engine.....thats something you need to consider as water will have enetered via inlet and exhaust valves and breathing hoses...
If the bike hasn't run since its swim consider internal corrsion and depending on what the bike is and how much of the work you can do yourself will you be saving money longterm

depends what sort of swim, was it running in the water???? not good, how long was it in??? I got a bike that had spent a few days in a river pushed in cold (not running) and the engine was full of silt, amazing really but still the silt is so fine it was not possible to clean every internal part

    Cheers for that fellas,
the bike has been running & the fella said he's ridden it a few times....the bloke bought it from the insurance company, dried it out (electrics) & as I said, changed oil etc,but he didnt know how deep the thing was in,said it'd been nearly at a standstill when it tipped over into the drink, so Im assuming it was running.... he didnt say it'd been flushed out, but the plugs were pulled out.... he also said that theres orange stuff still coming out the exhaust. I also hadnt thought that if it was a insurance jobbie it could well have sat for a bit, so hmmmmm a bit of a worry
So the first thing to do would be to flush it with kero......Think Ill give him another call.
