More pinlock questions

I had a spare set of pinlocks when I purchased my Shoei Muliti tech flip front which I managed to fit to my Nitro Aerotech, As long as you make the bead on the insert a nice tight fit you should have no issues with fogging. I have been using my Nitro whilst touring over the past 3mths or so in some really shit weather, passing through National park region regularly in the early hours as well as late in the day without any fogging what so ever. I can see fogging happening on the edges of the bead but it don't effect the inside portion, make sense ???

Shit $400 is a good price . I got the 1100 for $900 (graphics not plain) and they threw in my iridium visor ($200). The 1100's had just come out and the 1000's were selling for about $650 I think on special. So I thought the extra $250 was worth it.

I have a shoei multitec. It fogged badly in all weathers with the chin thingy on it. But less with the pinlock in place. I still have to have to front vent open.
My correcting lenses fog like anything as well so its a bit of a lose lose situation. Im thinking maybe I need to whip the chin thingy off again and put up with a cold face to solve the problem.

Maybe I have a really warm head?

I've just fitted a stick-in anti-fog liner to my visor and it seems to work well. Just $60 odd from Cycletreads. This was Oxford brand but I think there are other similar products around. The sticky part is just around the outside edge of the film.

Very good price.

I have the Shoei X-sprite ($920) with pinlock as standard and it has never fogged up once, even in the fog.
I would never have anything else now as nothing (that i have seen) does it 100% of the time as these do.
I would spend the extra money and get them as once you fit them there is nothing else to do, just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Now if i can just shut that wind noise up.

The shoie one isn't bad - and yes I had to buy another visor and an insert. The Arai one causes distortion of oncoming headlamps at night - not really up to the quality of the rest of the hat. I thought it might have just been mine but I read a comment in BIKE where the tester threw threw the pinlock away in exasperation.

yep mines been in place for a few days now, and i can only say good things about it. has transformed the helmet from annoying to awesome, which is great. money well spent imo! i struggle to even fog the sections that are not covered by the pinlock, presumably something to do with the moisture absorbing trick its supposed to do.

Interesting, never had an issue like that with any of my Pinlock inserts.

Neither. I've had 3 Arai lids and never had an issue with the pinlock.

Hope i am not being too thick here - but what do you mean by a coated visor?

Some visors come with a coating on the inside that prevents fogging. My Shark came with one, it has worked fine for three years plus. I haven't used it lately, the lining needs a wash and I'm waiting for a warm sunny day!

I understand some HJC hats have similar but I haven't tried theirs.

My AGV clear visor has a coating and it has worked just fine so far. Currently though I use a dark visor on that hat (of course?) and it isn't coated.

It doesn't fog, it just diffuses (?) car headlights spreading them over more of the visor area than is helpful. The Arai arrangement is great as long as you don't ride at night. Just the thing for sprotbike riders

Yeah i've done a reasonable amount of night riding and as I said haven't yet struck the problem you're referring to so I dunno mate...

Different experience to me then. Are you talking about actual 'Arai' versions of the Pinlock or just Pinlocks put onto Arai lids?

I don't remember buying any extras, it was bought new as a complete helmet a few months ago. It hasn't been exposed to any funny cleaning materials and has had only relatively little use.

Since the AGV currently has a dark visor, and the Shoei has a half tint, the Arai is first choice for bad light conditions. Maybe when summer arrives I can take the pinlock out?

I just assumed they were all like that, the BIKE coments indicate that mine isn't the only one. None of which means that none of them are any good.

But I'll want to have a bloody good look if I buy a replacement one
