    More pinlock questions

so i recently replaced my aging HJC with a shoei xr1000. i'd always planned to put a pinlock in this helmet, which is an even stronger conviction since i discovered it fogs like a bastard if i should even think about closing the visor fully.

so i toddled down to the local parts store, to be told that i need a special pin lock visor, as well as the pinlock itself! effectively tripling the expected cost. to be fair to the guy it did indeed look like the pinlock did not come with the pins to affix it to my regular visor... and the special shoei pinlock visor had a spare pair of pins, so i guess i could convert another visor to take a pinlock fairly easily if i did cough up the extra. (handy for tinted option, since it appears i wont be able to close my visor without one)

so is that how it is, or am i being had? have not heard mention of this special visor before.

    cheers!

ps - pretty unhappy with the way it fogs with the visor down, even at 100k its fog city. yes i have the vent open :P

I've got the same problem with my HJC CSR1, but only with my clear visor (my tinted one fogs a little but not nearly as much). I looked at the Pinlock website and they say that you need a special visor with pins on it. I've heard that shaving foam on the visor helps, but I haven't tried that yet. I don't know how much this special visor is but I'm thinking I'm going to need one sooner rather than later is I'm gonna stay upright.

I was pretty sure there was an "after market" version of pinlock that could be fitted to any helmet..?

Or maybe not - though I seem to remember a post on here about some such...

    Anyone?

Pinlock sell a kit that enables you to attach one of their products to pretty much any visor.

I stuck a tiny piece of bluetack just where the visor touches the helmet (at the bottom) works a treat ... and bugga all cost ..

it demists fine when the helmet is cracked open, but i have found in heavier rain water makes its way onto the inside of the visor - very difficult to clear while moving so i want to be able to keep the thing closed.

my HJC was fine with some catcrap sprayed in it - even standing still - but it doesnt seem to make a jot of difference with the shoei.

bugger, you should have brought the 1100. They have the pins already on the visor and it comes with a pinlock. I've got one on my clear and iridium visor.

But that's not the point. Yes you do need the visor with pins in unless you go with one of the universal solutions as mentioned above. It is a bit shit to tell you the truth. I suppose that's why the 1100 has the pins so people don't get pissed off buying another visor

Does the 1100 fog without the pinlock fitted?

yep i would of gotten an 1100 if the 1000 hadnt been so cheap.

i ended up getting the guy to order me a light smoked pinlock visor, which comes with a spare set of pins. i guess i will be able to use those to convert my clear visor for rainy days.

My Shoei fogs at slow speeds, and annoys when wet due to rain migrating inside visor if slightly open, although in summer is great,no fogging obviously, will get pinlock visor as present one has a few scratchs.

Nope fogs like a bitch. But you get a pinlock insert and a "pinned" visor with them as standard.

I think because they seal so well around the visor they're always gonna fog since the hot breath can't escape. Pinlock fixed it well though.

The 1000's would be good prices due to the 1100 coming out. The fit of the 1100 was so much better for me and I decided to stump for the little bit extra (I got a pretty good deal). The extra seemed like nothing when you consider the visors, better aero's and all that garbage. Love it and love the pinlock

Try an Icon Airframe, Mainframe or even the Domain2. The Airframe kicks ass, has the pin lock, removable liner, fog free visor, whisper kit like the $1000 helmets but for half the cost.

Freedom Suzuki in Palmy are finally bringing them in, otherwise try most shops in OZ and the US

The pinlock visor is brilliant and I should have bought one earlier. The visor is fitted to a Shoei Raid2 which fogged badly. I have just got back from a 266km ride in the rain which was most enjoyable and especially so now I can close the visor and have no fogging.

Riding in the rain is great when you have good gear. Back home dry as - very dirty bike though.
    Here for the ride.

The pinlocked visors certainly are good, definitely no fogging. There's also some adhesives from Fog City (I think) which do the same thing without requiring the pins. It's like selotaping a package of air on your visor, they work as well.

Of course I need glasses to ride and they fog up like a bitch anyway.
