There's a lot of answers to that one. Depends a bit on what kind of riding you like to do (for example, do you mostly want to ride on-road of off-road).

I like on-road riding. I quite like bikes with fearings, to help protect my legs during an accident. Fearings cost a lot to fix if you break them, but rather that than my legs.
Some people like naked bikes (with no fearings). Try looking at some pictures on Google of the two so that you can narrow your choices down faster.

My first bike was a Honda CBR250R, and another I had more recently was a Honda CBR250RR. I love both of these, and found them easy to ride.

I wouldn't get a flash bike to begin with. You're almost certain to come off at least once. Get a cheaper bike you don't mind damaging so much, and maybe in a year when you do your restricted licence get a nicer newer bike.

I also quite like buying from dealers rather than secondhand. That's because I like having the safety of the 3 month warranty they must give you. Also because I'm not a mechanical person, and can't easily perform checks myself.

Also it's easy to go to a dealer and look at lots of different bikes at once.

I'm sorry to hear that. I'd also encourage you to join your local motorcycle club. It is a great way to make friends with common interests.

Back to motorcycles; I'd also say I'm a fan of Japanese bikes for new riders. They tend to be very reliable and easy to ride in general.

ps. If your into speed, then you can't go past the CBR250RR. Pretty much the fastest 250cc bike there is.

Perhaps you should consider a Trike. Less strength required ...

Umm got it up to 125 before, haven't tried past that...its a single cylindar, but better than a gn250 - has radial (4) valves coming out of the one cylindar. Dual exhausts, electronic ignition, twin ke(somthingoratha) carbs...had 31BHP new...only thing it needs now is a clean out of the carbs and hopefully gonna do that next saturday :-)
