    RIP Moko

How cruel of his kind to bully him from the community. Burn them!

I guess the difference between cows/sheep etc and dolphins is the emotional intelligence attached to sea mammals, vs that attached to cows/sheep etc. Watching abbatoir footage can be just as disturbing - it's is just a more controlled and regulated scene, and we breed those animals for our benefit.

Now, I don't see NZ butchers cutting ears/legs off cows and sheep while they are still alive, but i see dolphin/shark/whales being cut up and bits cut off them while they are still clearly alive. Unfortunately, in some cultures, the more gruesome and extreme the death or animal's suffering during its death, the higher the potency of that animal's meat appears to be.

I don't agree or condone the Japanese' behaviour with this or many other - in fact it has helped me make some decisions about what products to purchase over the past few years. I don't know what do do about it - it's in my area of concern not influence at the moment.

Meh, they're only dolphins... they're waaaay down the list... I'm a lot more interested in humans not doing that to other humans.

Touchy feely propoganda. Whales, dolphins, walruses & seals are being slaughtered all over the world in a similar fashion. We like them, they are cute & it tugs our little heart strings to see them treated like this. I think it is cruel & totally unnecessary but stopping these culls will have zero impact on marine mammal numbers, it just makes us feel better.
We cannot see the results of starvation due to overfishing or the pain caused by pollution which is really important to us. The ocean food chains are collapsing, starting with krill at the bottom of the pyramid & working up to the critters we can be emotional about. We are playing jenga with our future. It's proper f@#$%^d.

The same thing is happening on our farms, hideous cruelty discretely packaged. The UK has recently allowed cows to be fed cows again
Enough of this, I'm having cat for tea.

    Ethical meat

Our NZ red meat is grown in the sun outside on a farm, but our white meats are grown in an indoor factory. Kiwis eat way too much meat and diary, anyway.

The longest lived people are generally semi vegetarian, some with diary.

So will I live longer if I keep a diary? Or is it only if I eat them?
