Marshals urgently required for Hampton Downs round of Nationals

Nationals - Hampton Downs Motorsport Park 15~17 March 2012

    G'day All,
As most of you will know the Auckland Motorcycle Club will be holding it's round of the Nationals over the weekend of 16~17 March 2012 at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park

Like most organisations we can always do with a few extra pairs of hands come Race Day(s) - so if you’ve ever wanted to experience top class motorcycle racing first hand “Marshaling” is where it’s at – you simply don’t get closer to the action than these guys & girls do short of actually racing yourself !!!

We need a minimum of 18 Marsahls for Friday afternoons parctice sessions & 31 minimum on both race days...

Those of you are interested in giving up a couple of hours of your time over those days are invited to contact Ange (Chief Flag Marshal) on 027 684-0552 , ms.chief.angel@gmail.com or myself on 027 242 7639 or scottzx12@gmail.com – free entry to the meeting will be provided on the day(s) you are marshalling as well as lunch & drinks during the day, we’ll even throw you some petrol vouchers to compensate travel expenses...

Please give it some thought & pass a link to this thread along to anyone you may also think would be interested

This year the A.M.C.C has made a significant investment in making this meeting a "Family Day Out" environment with onsite activities gaurenteed to keep kids of all ages entertained, they include a live band, trade stalls, face painting, 1 hour endurance race to name but a few - come along, give us a few hours of your time & enjoy the party atmosphere when your done

Thanks for taking the time to look this over & we hope to hear from you shortly...

    Cheers
To finish first - first you must finish... Oh b.t.w, which way doe's Turn 1 go & whats the lap record...

I'm in for the Friday as I'm unemployed that day and possibly one (or two) of the race days. PM me if you need any info, otherwise I'll be there on Friday.

I suppose, for some people, getting to watch other people race motorbikes all day is quite exciting and worth the time and travel cost etc.

I was wondering if this would come up... again. Do we really need to do it again?

Racers wouldn't be able to race without marshals, for some us lunch, drinks, and some vouchers are enough to keep the guys racing. If we got paid 10s or 100s (like HDRD/CSS did) then where does the money come from? I hardly think racers would love the idea given that it costs plenty for them to participate. Last Nats I think AMCC made a large loss, so it's hardly like they're rolling in money either.

For me, it's a way of giving back a little... I get a front row seat to the entertainment, and yes, sometimes you have deal with some nasty stuff, but I can handle it no worries.

We think you're suckers, but if you've got nothing better to do on the day, good on ya. But it's not in the same league as manning the kitchen at the Auckland City Mission.

The racers are doing it for themselves. They want to go fast around a track. It's an expensive sport for thrill-seeking dilettantes. Entry fees for race meets are not a major component of their costs and might as well go up as much as would be required to pay at least minimum wage to the track marshals for their time.

If all you starry-eyed n00bs stopped bending over and taking it so that the thrill-seeking dilettantes could have their fun slightly more cheaply, things would change.
