As for classic trials, I've been busy scanning my old slide photos from way back and thought you might be interested in these. Camera was only a Kodak Instamatic, so no griping about the quality please. Denill will recognise the people involved especially the last one. Those were the days (November 1973) no flash lycra gear, no helmets and no one worried if anyone smoked while they were riding (not that I ever smoked myself).

Remember Don Smith? The Bobby Goldsbougha hairdo and ever present fag,I wonder how he copped when helmets came in.I wasn't into trials that early, but used to watch - I had a red 1979 plastic tank Sherpa T 350,my mate I rode with had the orange fibreglass tank model. There was only A and B grade back then and B Grade was what Expert A Grade Twinshocks would ride today - it took me months to appear on the scoresheets with a result and not DNF...it was sooooo hard! The Bullies became too hard to ride when the small Fantics came along and we had to dump them for smaller bikes.Great photos as per usual Merv.

I am not sure if you recognised it but the first pic is of (me on) my Bro's 73 Sherpa T350 which he fitted with an Alpina tank (hence the blue colour). It was larger capacity, had a softer seat, and was still OK for trials but back in 73 we rode all our bikes everywhere so he used that on the road too travelling all the back country so the extra gas was handy. Denill can tell us but I think his Sherpa was a 250. In those days we used the Sherpas for everything, trials, scott trials, scrambles (before we called it MX), trail rides and road rides.
