    1990 CBR400rr clunking noise

    Kia Ora

Over the past few weeks I have noticed a light clunk clunk clunk noise when I am coasting below 3500rpm in gear (it will often do it out of gear when I'm rolling above 15km/h too). I think it is internal but can't be sure. I had a snoop around under the bike but have no idea what I'm looking for.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

Probably the chain. They develop tight spots, which cause a 'thump' when they hit one or both of the sprockets.
Have a look at the free length between the sprockets, and slowly rotate it until you've seen the entire length of the chain. Chances are you will see a kink where two or more links don't pivot freely on the pins.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Cheers bro. This makes sense. I'll check it out this evening. Fingers crossed it will be an easy fix

Or the chain's just so fucken loose that it's floppin around like a cock in a sock. That'll usually make a bit of a racket.
