Toyota engine question...

Right - in one terrible day (yesterday) amid all the other horrors, my sweet wee corolla wagon died protecting me from my own stupidity...

So I needs a new wagon....

Camry's? The old 3L V6 is a head gasket disaster zone but at what stage was it replaced by the Lexus ES300 all alloy job (which I'm told is a better unit).. What about the 2.5L quad cam V6? OK or Dog?

Others in the frame are 1600 corolla or caldina (already have one - bullet proof car)

Opinions on other options? Needs are for a bigger wagon but other options are upgrade vicki and I get another corolla sized wagon??? CHEAP to buy and run is number one, style and looks are secondary...

Head gaskit was a factory torque setting not being enough tension like the old 7mgte supras. Not sure tho but easy as to tighten up toyota heads with the right hex bit.

I'd go 2L 3sge 3sfe type, bullet proof and economical.

I have to say, they are bloody good a - b cars, had one for 60,000kms and never had to spend a cent on it except for oil changes.

Sold it to a mate, and its still going strong without any need for work (1.5 years ago)

Honda accords are good too, had a vtec 1 for a while was real good, cheap on gas plus had power on tap.

No comparison to my twin turbo legacy tho as far as comfort, wagon space and power. A non turbo model with rwd conversion would be better with economy

I love my Toyota Avensis wagon.

Shifted house in/with it. Toured in it. Commuted in it.

(Only issue I had was that it used to stall a lot, if not just make tap-dancing sounds, when I took off from intersections; something up with engine management (or fuel, or air, ...) at low RPM that the dealer (whom I bought it new off, bastard) was never arsed about fixing. Seems to have mostly gone away.)

If you need the size of a camry wagon, I would go with the 2.2 4cyl. Had one for years, did over 250K in it.

Some of the earlier v6 ones didnt have air-con....

Paul. The lil wingroad is a real nice a to b car. But if you care nothing about looks and be able to fit a B120 or an A100 inside have a look at the toyota Funcargo's.
They are literally a tardis.I've carted an LT80 quad.a Jr80 and the go kart I got for the kids for christmas inside one (no not all at the same time)
They have the same 1500cc VVTi engine as the toyota echo/platz/raum/corolla (1500) etc which means maintainence is really limited to regular oil changes.(no cam belt)
They also have advantages with higher seats. and a high roof line so getting in and out is a slide sideways not a flop down.
If theres anything else you are concidering I'm happy to call my warranty company for you and see whats what.
One thing though--toyota's with the 2.0l D4 engine (thats in the camry sedan and the gaia 2.0l and a couple of other models) They are getting a lil bit of a rep for not being toyota's best effort so for now I'd avoid em.
