No the message isn't getting through and I doubt it ever will. I doubt these people, buy a newspaper, read anything online or offline, listen to news on the radio and take any notice of what other than what their peers say. They live in their own bubble, stupefied with alcohol, drugs and whatever noise they call music. How can they know if there is a message that is targeted to them?
    Here for the ride.

When we were kids there was a little ditty parents' used to quote:

There was a little girl, had a little curl, right in the middle of her forehead.
When she was good, she was very very good but when she was bad, she was horrid!

Seems to spring to mind when musing New Zealand society behaviour and values!

This is why I don't get upset by the occasional stop for a random breath check at a checkpoint.

Some people just won't get the message into their heads, so some pre-emptory action is required.

(i.e. I don't get pissy about my "rights" being violated or something, I know I'm not drunk, and the cops don't know 'till they've checked me...)

Understood that the youthful brain has a low awareness of risk and consequence, especially the male. Seems reasonable advantage for us to have evolved that way to support the young going into battle. That would make "irresponsible" risk taking a biologiocal given among the youth/young adults. Equally understand that binge drinking to blackout generates as much brain damage as being physically knocked out. Is it reallistic to expect significant changes?

yes it is.Whilst the idea of risk is a foreign one to teenage males role models are also highly regarded. We have got to get away from the idea that all the best times can only be had when using alcohol or drugs.
