    Cycletreads - Shoei helmets?

    Hi guys

I'm new to the forum and enjoying it.

Do Cycletreads sell Shoei Asian spec helmets? or do they sell the ones that meet the European standards? Sorry if it seems a stupid question, I was in Cycletreads looking at their X-11 helmets but did not pay too much attention at the time to the specs but saw this stated by another dealer on TradeMe afterwards:

"Beware of the traders that are attempting to sell the Shoei X-11 helmet, assuring you that it is the same as the Shoei X-Spirit. The X-11 helmets being offered on Trade Me are Asian-specification helmets, which are NOT designed for NZer's heads! Please find below the official line from Shoei Japan:"

So I asked them about it (Boyd Honda) and they gave me this answer:

"Hi there, The Asian helmets will have graphics on it saying X-11 not X-Spirit and the saftey spec ECE 22-05 is Euorpean. The Asian ones will have a different saftey list. (Sorry not sure what it would say, just know it will not say this)"

Is this correct what they are saying?

I did notice that the helmet I was looking at in Cycletreads did have X-11 graphics on it and not X-Spirit.

I did find a thread on the forum on Asian spec helmets but that was related to another trader on TradeMe sometime ago.

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

I thought that the specs will be the same, but the shell sizes & linings reflect the different shaped heads of different ethnicities...i.e an A-shun xl will be different to a cawkayshun xl

If it fits your head you'll be sweet. Asian spec will not mean that they take all the padding out and make them of cardboard, same as European spec doesn't mean they are all XXXXL for the Germans.

You can find approved standards here - http://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/ro...ight-gear.html, but don't laugh at the drawing at the top of the page, that's for idiots.

I think Whites are the importer of Shoei helmets and Cycletreads aren't on their list of Auckland dealers. That in itself means little though and could very well be an oversight?

    Contact Whites if you're worried.

I agree. If it fits, then sweet. If not, don't buy it.
I can't fit any Shark helmets cos they all give me a mean pressure point in the middle of the forehead.

The cycletreads shoei helmets are parallel imported by them and not supplied by whites wholesale. They are the us spec helmets and are designed to meet their standards. They are heavier than nz/european spec helmets.

Their raid 2 is $599 - a plain colour raid 2 at motomail is $499 whilse decaled ones are $599

Their xr1000's go for the same price as the plain coloured xr1100's at motomail. The xr1000 is a great helmet but the xr1100 is in my opinion better.

There are other differences between the us and euro spec I believe.

Thanks for your feedback. The helmet I was looking at fits sweet, just heard that the Asian spec helmets are not as good quality wise and you may not get the 5yr Shoei warranty - not sure wheather the warrant would cover bugger all anyway.

I got an Arai off trade me and it was a jap spec. Because it didnt have a oz or nz safty standard I wasnt able to use it racing or at track days when i went to ozzy and technically your not allowed to use on NZ roads if it doesnt either.

Helmet def had a diff fit then all the other Arais I had as well.

    Warranty is important as well.

So happy I changed to Shoei though

Think you will find cycletreads is on their Auckland dealers list, if you search all products, Auckland dealers then they come up, just not for Shoei in particular. As for if they are parallel imported shoei's they are selling, no idea.
