Hi Folks. Have been giving this ride some serious thought. After feedback from the folk who came home with me after this weeks ride, I am sure we have come up with some improvements.

    1. we need to break the ride partway into it to talk over habits and issues arising during the first part.

    2. We need to finish the ride at a place where we can sit around and talk about the ride and generally socialise a bit.

    3. We desperatly need very experienced riders to accompany each set of learners.

    so...

with this in mind I propose a re-run of the Bays ride for next Tuesday with a few changes.

We will leave from the Duckpond as usual and head left and over into Naenae. Along Oxford Tce ( or is it Cambridge? ) to Gracefield and then right around th ebig roundabout onto The Esplanade. Regroup at Settlers Museum. This route is to avoid a messy bit of th ehighway. From there we will break into groups and tackle the highway to the Ngauranga turnoff. Regroup again very briefly at the service station. From there we will play follow the leader around and meet the Town folk along the Parade. I think the carpark just around the corner from TePapa close to the kiddies playground would do the deed.Hopefully there will be empty spots we can claim. From there we will head around Bays to Island Bay, then inland to Basin McD's where will will take over the place and have a social and de-brief session before dispersing for home.

A few issues I noted from this week-
I am not happy at the speed we went into town, Lplaters are on a 70k limkit and that is the speed I expect us to travel.
There was a bit of a hiccup at one point with lane changes at the lights and taking off in front of a car once the light was green. While that manouvre is easy and safe for experienced riders, with a long tail of learners it is better not to go there. We will just wait in line and take our turn as it happens.

As a plus, I am pleased to note comments from you that input from experienced riders is useful. Hats off to Bryce and Mark for taking time to help out. We can really use more riders with years of riding behind them to accompany these rides.
Many thanks to the newer riders who stepped in to take on TEC and RL roles, I know you dont have the hours on road to take this on, but Im very grateful to you for giving it a shot.

p.s..there will be NO MORE WHEEL STANDS will there? ( you know who you are )

Given the amount of oil you were burning Jake, im not suprised it seized. Tell you what, the TEC rider sure gets to smell a variety of bikes....2-smokers, chookchasers and oilburning 4smokes...mmmmm smells of home!

Hoping to have a few extra multiyear riders on board for next week

Have revised the route slightly to keep out if the 100k zone as much as possible and still keep fairly together. See post further up this page for route.

If the weather goes to custard then we will still ride but it will be a shorter ride around the Hutt and we will meet at High St KFC for social and talk about riding.

Announce Note change of planned route tonight

I'm reluctant to do the Bays tonight because of the wind.

I'd like to try a spot of offroad loose surface riding tonight. In and out of the loose surface riverbank roads. Start at Pond and work our way up river to SIlverstream and then on and off highway back down the western side of the river. And then to HIghSt KFC for afters.

We will leave 6.30 from the Pond and head up river along Harcourt Wherry. If you miss us, you will at least be heading in the right direction to find us again.

Do you think gravel riding might be a bit too challenging in reducing light and if it has been raining and with learners in tow as well?
