Interesting development - anybody else get this?

Came accross an interesting development for myself the other day in regards to four wheeled automobile driver behaviour. Some of you may have come accross this before, I certainly hadn't though.

Was running some errands on my bike after seeing my partner for lunch. Was wearing all the gear, high vis, headlight was one and I was sitting at about 40km/h as traffic was pretty heavy. I see a bus stop up ahead to unload/load passengers and realise the car behind it will get stuck. Anyway, I am right next to the car behind the bus (front wheel at his driver door), I see the driver check his mirror (good), then turn his head and check his blind spot (good), indicate (good) and then start merging (Huh!?). I toot my horn to duly tell him I am still there next to him. He turns his head and sees me and still keeps merging. I come to a complete stop to let him in as there is no room to swerve and no way to gas it out. All in all no very exciting, easily avoided but I had the right of way.

At the next lights I stop next to him and ask whether he saw me and why he forced me to stop when I had right of way. His response "I saw you mate, I just didnt care".

I was a bit miffed at that but as no harm was caused I merely pootled on my way.

I've come accross the "I didnt see you, I'm sorry" but never the "I saw you but didnt give a shit" response.

Anybody else had this said to them? Frustrating.

In that case it might pay to write a strongly worded letter to the bus company expressing your concerns.

I think it was the car behind the bus, not the bus.

Have experienced the I'm bigger than you so fuck the right of way rules attitude from 4 wheel drivers.

Until I can get approval for a .50 cal mount on the bars I just have to leave them to it.

It worries me somewhat that you had to explain that to him!

That's typical 4WD behaviour, to be honest.

Kick his fucking tail lights, indicators in. When he asks you why - tell him you don't give a shit.

PS. A spark plug in the pocket is brilliant on windscreens.

Occurs plenty at the Wellington Southbound merge to Terrace Tunnel
I've been bounced off a few car doors as the went from left to right lane... luckily on these two occasions I saw it coming and had the anchors out & emergency exit path... Still scares the crap out of you!!

    Two excuses I've had were:

    • "I had to because that van cut me off"
    • " Sorry I saw you but was already halfway across & thought it was safer to keep merging"

I'm still aghast at the absence of indicating in NZ... & the amount of crazy fcukers that U-turn all over the place (cops excluded/included?!)
If I had a GF I'd like only ride 5 times a week!

Not surprising given the way some 2 wheel types cut through there on the shoulder at , and between lanes, at speed.
If we behave disrepectfully of other road users then we reap what we sow.

Happens all the time on Auckland motorway but usually car on car. If your lucky you may get a split second indication or they usually do it once the wheels have crossed into your lane.

Personally, I think this is a perfect situation for urinating through his open window. Bonus points if you get him in the eye
