    Brake 'Chirp'

Have a new model Ninja EX250 with 2700kms on her, and have a little issue with the rear brake.

Its making a 'Chirp chirp chirp' sound as i ride, and the faster i go the quicker it 'chirps'. If i touch the rear brake pedal at all the noise stops.

Any idea what could be causing it? and would copper grease on the back of the pad sort this?

It's touching something - pad or caliper

Does it pulse when you put your foot on the brake? - if so its possibly a warped disc that touches the pad at a particular point and sets up a vibration in the pad. I'd check the disc for run out (free spin the rear wheel and look for movement in the disc). The other possibility is it's rubbing on the caliper or pad somewhere, id be pulling the caliper and pads out and looking for a shiny point where it's been rubbing/touching.

there may be somthing foreign in the pad itself
or uneven wear on the pad/disk

Maybe some dirt or corrosion is preventing the piston from returning fully

Shouldnt matter if the bikes been through insurance. Its still a manufacturing problem if the brake disk is warped.

If your shop says no that was caused by a prang then you go back to your insurance company and tell them they didnt fix your bike properly.

aww shit, im not having a go at you, but if you need to ask advice about this, rather than having the confidence to just pull it apart and look at it, fer chrissakes dont go anywhere near it with grease!!!!

    Could be
    warped disc
something (like a stone) jammed under the pad
brake pad getting very low (youd have to ride the rear damned hard to wear it in 2700km!
    may need to be bled,
    piston could be jammed

at 2700km it should still be under warrantly, swing by and have a chat with the dealer!!
