Don't know what you could learn from me... Off to TSS now and I've printed the last 3 pages off for him so he can have a read :-)

Not at speed? So a closing speed of 120-140 isn't enough? Screw me with a barge pole. No one is calling Cloggy anything because he made a technical error which nearly cost HIM. The other guy made a bad call that could've cost me. I've made plenty of errors. None of them ever endangered anyone but myself. It's called TIME AND PLACE. The difference should be obvious.

Yes there are 2 sides, but only one is right. - ok just kidding.
I suppose if people are part of a group ride - they need to follow rules of the ride - fair enough?
He might have learnt - but what about the next new guy that comes along without any basic rules for a group ride? Same thing again...
It's good the dude apologised - didn't know the rider, so couldn't direct the apology etc... I'm sure he learned.
Let's cut that off at the chase.
Had he not crossed the centre line - no issue. Basic rule upfront.
I know there are heaps of people that know when to overtake on the 'takas over the double yellows when you know the road, visibility like the back of your hand.... I have one particular bend I'll do that on - but won't do it with group rides of unfamiliar riders
Anyone signing up to the wednesday night ride needs to put that out the window - as skill levels are unknown of fellow riders (different people come and go). Therefore sane maximums make sense (the 3 rules - like the 3 sacred scrolls).

Ok. We've sorted it out in person. Let's speak of that particular incident no more.

Seems weird to me that 90% of the discussion on this incident is from people who have either never or seldom even bothered to show up for the ride. Plus it's about a beginner who I don't even recall riding with before.
I actually caught up with the guy on the way back over the hill and he was ringing the nuts of that little bike... which is cool but... there's nothing in reserve and erratic would be an understatement. ADHD on wheels. He just needs to calm the fuck down and ride predictably when he's in a big bunch with strangers.
The regulars seem to manage to sort themselves out into a pecking order based on speed and intent and there's usually hardly any overtaking anyway... unless you're waved through.
The problem seems to arise when we've got newbs down the back who want to demonstrate their madskills by carving up the slower riders. Unfortunately we're only reacting with outrage when it's happened rather than being proactive and laying down the law beforehand.
I hate rules and as for Hels taking charge...IMHO don't call us we'll call you.
What about a statement of intent before each ride?
This is not a race.
We all want to get home safely.
Don't let your ego take control.
When you're riding in a bunch ride smoothly and predictably.
If you're fast go towards the front of the group. If you get caught behind slower riders just chill the fuck out and look after them. Maybe you can offer some helpful advice at the Royal.
All the responsibilty for the overtake lies with the overtaker.

Much as I love just turning up and riding with mates I know and trust (except Cloggy) we'd probably better sort something out before the good weather brings out the hordes.

Hey. Carbonhed. Pure comedy. That's meant to be satirical, right?
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?

I hope so. @Carbonhed: Maybe these people used to turn up at the WNR before it became like it was last year. Maybe some of these people used to turn up for 4-5 years solid before you even joined KB. Maybe one of the figures connected with the ride died on the same weekend as two other riders. These other two were involved in a head-on. Join the dots to see why this whole thing might be an issue close to the hearts of some of the people you refer to.
