New Delhi: To go or not to go?

I am not sure what every one else thinks, but I am fast coming to the conclusion that the commonwealth games are a disaster waiting to happen. If I was an athlete (snigger snigger) I certainly would not be keen. The bridge collapse this morning just reinforces my opinion further. So do you think we should go or not?

Security, sub standard housing, shoody construction....it is all beginning to mount up.

If they can't build a bridge strong enough to support itself, how the hell can we trust them to build a stadium to support 100,000 people.

No, we pull out for our athletes safety.

I bet the whole bloody show gets canned anyway.

It does seem to be a bit of a joke but I reckon after the years of dedication to their sports the athletes must make the decision. They have made huge sacrifices to qualify for the games in the first place & I'm sure being stopped from even reaching India would be heartbreaking for many. If the possible risks become a certainty then a decision can be made here, otherwise they should decide first hand in India.

Can't they use the now collapsed bridge as a venue for the long jump?

You've probably got more chance of being killed on your bike in NZ by some cager, u-turning police officer etc.

As for accommodation I think John Walker said earlier it would be worse to not compete that to put up with inferior accom.

As the others said...harden the fuck up. :-)

while falling bridges and terrorist threats are all a concern, it's the sh1t smeared all over the walls in the accomodation of the games village I'd be worried about.

It's only when you take the piss out of a partially shaved wookie with an overactive 'me' gene and stapled on piss flaps that it becomes a problem.

Regardless of the conditions, the 50 yard dash will still take place. For all athletes. Unless they do like the builders and just crap in the corner of the room.

If it goes ahead maybe they will have to have some new events -

    The fastest to catch cholera.
Which dysentery infected runner can fill a bucket the fastest.
Hurdling for people with diarrhoea would be good to watch, although weightlifitng with the shits would be a bit of a problem. It would have to be done in the swimming venue.

In the end, what did they expect. Give it to a country without the infrastructure and they will either bankrupt themselves or fuck it up.
