Coppers can pull you over and check your rego. Riding with a held rego is likely to have similar (or harsher) penalties than an expired rego.
As for the cops. My guess is that some of them like to ride bikes in their spare time, that might include Wednesday evenings. It would be quite neat to get an actual bike cop along one time though.
And remember ...... if it hasn't got one of "Uncle Flip's" prosthetic kickers it isn't a real motorbike!!!
Think about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If we have members ofriding with us on their time off and not involving us in their working life, it means we are not high on the law's hit list.
Thewill leave us alone unless we do something to draw attention to ourselves, lots of accidents, a lot of bikes not street legal, WNR members breaking road laws etc.
Do you wantlooking over our shoulder all the time?????(Shut up Garry) Endeth preaching!!!!!
Anyway Neels is working on a ride around Lake Ellesmere out towards Rolleston/Dunsandel.
Phoenixgtr has suggested a number of options which make a lot of sense.
Mr Net came up with some good ideas.
And of course we have Petra's ride which we are doing this week.
Please keep the ideas coming folks.
And remember ...... if it hasn't got one of "Uncle Flip's" prosthetic kickers it isn't a real motorbike!!!
yeah Garry, some good points. but 250's (quite a few last week i might add) are always going to draw attention if they are hauling ass through the country roads though (i'd rather see a learner do 100kph than 70 on most 100k speed limit roads personaly. of course a lot are going to be on their restricted. and some old bikes probably have their rego's on hold permanently (especially if it is just a bike that gets a couple of runs a month)
i hope no one takes a note pad on the wnr.![]()
We really do not want anything to do with the Rozza on the WNR OK! It is however important that people turn up with safe bikes (Hi Gordie you still out there).
Good idea that the leader and the TEC know how to contact each other, its harder in practice to do because I you can't hear or talk on the phone while riding.
It was also me that stopped to help out the young guy on the rough Yamahaha last ride and I was not the TEC. I usually carry tools and heaps of shit to help out, and I won't go past anybody who has broken down or has a worse problem be you on 2 wheels or more.
It's going to be more and more difficult to get everybody through the ride together as the numbers grow. Does it really matter if the ride takes a bit longer or is it more important that nobody is left broken down on the side of the road?

I think the idea has been discussed before, but if by 6:15 this week we have 20-25 bikes I'll lead a 6:15 ride and then someone else can lead the 6:30 ride or visa versa.
Compliance with the registration laws is personal choice, it is not a saftey issue, but riding a bike that is UP TO WOF std min is a saftey issue, IMO, that should be the only requirement for these rides.
Being in a such a large group does increase the possibility of breakdowns, thus having some of us available to help when this happens is a bonus, Flip your beasty is perfect for this, a mobile tool box??? So maybee if anyone with mechanical knowlage who is inclined to help with breakdowns, ride with or near Flip. Dont you just love old school practical....
As for the time the ride takes to complete..... Its the ride, not the destionation that should be the object of the event.
I agree that some do want to pin the throttle, clench the butt cheeks, challenge the road rules, hurtle into the corners, boost their egos by going at speeds others would not entertain, and thats OK, We just let them go first and hope we dont have to pick up the bitts .
Learners? OK it is good that we have the learners with us, as that is part of the reason for the WNR is it not?
So yes they are required by the law to restrict their speed to 70kph on the open road, IMO, having these riders mentored with experianced riders who are prepared to sit with them would allow them to ride safley at 100kph. It would be a sadfaced plod who deamed different.
The comment that 250 and under machines would attract the wrath of the laws to our group I think is unjustified. there are plenty of 250 crusers that dont look like 250's and 350-400 sprot/naked mahines that do look lke 250's. Its the behaviour that attracts the plod, not the bike. So as long as we are orderly and well behaved ( which we are most of the time) then our WNF should have no incidents.
Communication between the leader and the TEC will always be a problem, I think that there could be a place for some in the middle of the pack to assume the position of keeping the ride on course by stopping at major road direction changes as discussed in an earlier post by Flip.
I enjoy my WNR always do, I would hate to see it become a regulated, rule laden, ride ....... Its the freedom from authority that makes this ride so good, the fact that everybody can and does have a say comfortably about the rides, that we share the "outlaw" that is hidden in each one of us. If we wanted rules.... then go ride with the %^#@ clubs.
See you all Wed for Petra's ride!
To be old and wise, first you must be young and stupid.
I agree with what Flip and Subike have posted!!!!
My desire is to have as little as possible forto pick on us about. The more we comply with the law the less grounds
has to be picky. If we are stopped, how can we defend someone whose bike has no reg or wof . Nobody can!!!!
However if someone is doing 90 to 100 Ks on a restricted licence, or is out after curfew, I think this is a different matter. I believe as part of our group there would be a lot of leeway given.
Please ............. get your bikes street legal, that way we can look after you better if stopped by
Leaders and TECs? Texting when delays or problems occur?
SB your mention of midpack riders guiding at major changes of direction and at other points in the ride. Anybody who wants to contribute with this or anything else should go for it ........ PLEASE.
Better organised regroups, communication between leader and tec, a second group where needed. What else???????
And remember ...... if it hasn't got one of "Uncle Flip's" prosthetic kickers it isn't a real motorbike!!!
I agree with the comments posted by all so far.
Speaking as a L-plater on a measly 250, it is really appreciated when an experienced rider takes us under their wing and allows us to follow them through the ride and especially the corners so that we can learn the lines, brake points, entry speeds etc. Generally we have not been on most of these roads on a bike, so they are quite new to us. Glo, Flip and Max have been exemplary so far, being prepared to slow down and lead us. In fact most of the bikers we have been on a ride with have imparted a few words of wisdom!and have been willing to assist where possible. Constructive criticism is always welcome. At the same time, we do not want to hold back any of the experienced riders, but these rides are the perfect place and opportunity to improve our riding skills and learn how to ride better and safer and at the same time learn the etiquette of riding with the group.
Perhaps we should also have a few allocated "mentors" on every ride that are prepared to show us "learners" the way?
And remember ...... if it hasn't got one of "Uncle Flip's" prosthetic kickers it isn't a real motorbike!!!
Well I for one are happy to do a U turn and fuck off if we are pulled over in bulk by the rozza. Always wanted to be pulled over in this case and explain I am the designated decoy........
