I was out in the car last night with the Dunedin lot dropping coffee, tea and food to the police and army guys at the cordons and can I just say they are awesome! Will type up a longer report later. Let's just say that I have never seen the city centre as quiet on a Friday night!

The roads that we saw like Fitzgerald Ave are completely buggered. There are huge cracks and holes all the way from Bealey Ave to Gloucester Street. Us lot managed to see more of the damage caused due to being allowed near the cordons.

I would say if you are out and about please take care on the roads and if you have a spare half hour go and give the cops a coffee, they really would appreciate it!!

I'll put my flame suite on before I say this.

I think you should give this WNR a miss the way things are this week at least.
We have been asked to keep off the roads to allow the service people to do their jobs.
And I do not think it is a good look to be seen blasting around the place with no need to go anywhere.
And the way things are you may have a problem finding a place open.

    Just my thoughts.
    You will do want.
Feel the fear and do it anyway

I disagree. I think it would be good to go for a cruize somewhere north of the town.

Im not saying we should ride through the twisties or anything like that, just maybe head to the pub and enjoy a quiet beer.

Both good points. Maybe just designate a pub/cafe somewhere north or south and those who can or want to just meet there for drinks/hugs/laughs/a good cry/all of the above, rather than an actual ride. Means those without bikes can join too ...
Maybe if people want to and we're out of town, go for a wee ride after ...

My vote is somewhere with a loo that flushes! Oh what luxury!

Maybe Kaiapoi or Rangiora? don't know how those places are ...

Rangiora is 100% fine, everything works out there.

    Kiapoi is probably fucked again.

When heading out to Rangiora there are a few large-ish cracks in the roads though. Nothing thats not driveable though.

Kaiapoi is fine from what I've seen, a few things seemed to have moved here and there but nothing serious, they've now got people from christchurch heading out there to do their shopping.

Would be good to get a break from shovelling silt and head out for a ride on wednesday.

Folks I think I agree and see merrit in all the thoughts expressed for and against a ride on Wednesday.

My suggestion is if you want to go for a tootle/pootle/cruise and meet up somewhere in Kaiapoi/Rangiora/wherever, then go for it because the last six months have been rather stressful and a ride would bring some pleasure and normality back into our lives.

Please travel safely and take care of yourselves!

    Holy shit!!

Thankfully the only damage to our place was a few more cracks in the tarmac in the drive. Granted one of the bikes toppled over in the last couple of days, thankfully only minor damage!
