Jr Mechanic wants a job in racing/ willing to help at race days.

Howdy, I am almost finished my course and looking for a job in motorcycle racing. I find it facinating and highly intriguing. I have had no trackside experience but I am willing to learn. 2 and four stroke it doesn't matter, happy with any opportunities that i can get.

    Thanks

Bloody good start mate There are a lot of wellington based race teams on here, so am sure some will take you on as a helper in there race team to give you track side exsperience, all be it with NO wage I am sure, but as far as full time Paid work goes, DO NOT, hang around untill you see jobs advertised dude, go to every single bike shop down your way and present your self for work, show them face to face not email to email how keen and genuine you are, May I even suggest offering them 1-5 days FREE OF CHARGE labour as a way of cementing just how genuine and keen you are

Cheers for that, I am also willing to relocate for the right job. I have looked around the major bikeshops in wellington and they are so full up with mechanics its nuts. So if any one is able to get me in contact with any of the race teams i would be chuffed. thanks

Currently (and the foreseeable future) there is no way of making a living in NZ motorcycle racing as a mechanic - just getting that out there - and i cannot think of too many shops that are actively involved in racing to the point where they have a "team" as such...... But........

As has been said, don't let that stop you. Working the bike industry (in any role) is under paid, over worked and high stress. Don't let anyone tell you other wise, but that is the very reason that someone with a real drive could "make it"

Best bet is get involved with an established business, learn your trade, and get a few years experience in both at the track and in the workshop, and when you feel competent, getl your ass over seas ( no mate, not Aussie, I mean OVER SEAS) America, UK and Europe all have domestic championships that you could earn a living from spannering, no problem.

Being a Kiwi opens a lot of doors for you, but it is up to you to keep them open.

Good luck I say, but remember, when you have to work 6 days a week just to have the same money as your mates who work 5, keep your eyebon the prize!

Are you able to get your self to to manfeild race track on the following dates, and take care of your travel costs and accomadtion?

    Round 6
    Manfeild Short Track
    Fridat 8th- TEST DAY ONLY
    Sat 9th October RACE DAY

If so, I will happily give you a start in the race track scene, but it will be bit by bit though, as we do not know even know each other, and I need to see your abilities before I would let you loose on a race bike.

    Moto Academy NZ

Moto Academy NZ is looking for someone to come and help on racedays. As mentioned above, this would be a non-paying gig, but we can pay your travel costs.
We will be looking for someone to help us for the summer and NZSBK which may possibly have a small wage component, but no promises.
If you get involved with us you will be introduced to the General Manager of Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup, in Europe.
I am certain that they would be constantly looking for mechanics with race team experience and especially with 125GP bikes.
    Cheers

Hey I was a ex student down there at Weltec bloody good course,
Really take any chance you have Phil might have told you about Scoot? he was the same year as me did some work with Jay Lawrence in the Nationals and went to England working ended up at Colchester Kawasaki and working in MSS Kawasaki.

working on 125gp bikes would be a good start they are a proper race bike but are not to complicated to make to many mistakes to start with as I know what its like working in a shop to working on raceday the ball game changes completly the time factor is alot quicker in having to have the bike completed and working on a 600 could be abit dawnting to start with.

I mean thats how I look atit you might be perfectly fine and able to work to a high standered in a quick ammount of time.

Anyway give it your best shot and good luck for your final exams down there
