My answer. No, go and take a flying fuck to yourselves. You get paid enough already, in comparison to other public servants, just drop the entitlements PERIOD if it's for the good of the country... ya know, lead by example...

This decision should not be made by the Remuneration Authority, it should not be made by the unions, it should not be made by the politicnans themselves (ok the Remuneration Authority)... ASK THE PEOPLE PAYING YOUR WAGES... but they won't do that because they know, or at least fear, that they'll be told to go and take the aforementioned flying fornication...

Good politicians and good teachers are worth their weight in gold because like gold they are hard to find!

You don't find all the lesser metals commanding the same value as precious metals, why is it when it comes to politicians and teachers, they expect us to see them all a equals?

It seems that everyone else thinks it's ok to leave things to Mr Fox. But you gotta pay the good people or they'll go and do what they do somewhere else and we'll lose their taxes and expertise and the sky will fall and the seas will boil because they won't be here anymore

Something we should be allowed to decide/vote on, is whether the politicians (good and bad, who already get paid well enough, DOUBLE that of teachers), should get another 10% pay rise in place of their future perks. I would vote a resounding NO to this. I expect my money to go into services, not to fund some wankers jaunts for the rest of their lives.

I think the ploppiticians have had it good enough, for long enough.

I think Chris Carter is the worst example of self serving politicians out there, followed closely by David Garrett who at least had the common decency to resign from parliament.
Someone please correct me if Im wrong, is Chris Carter in his third term at Parliament? In which cases he would be hanging on so that he has ''served'' nine years and is therefore entitled to a pension having served the minimum period to qualify.

He's been around longer than most people realise - he'll complete five terms (15 years) as MP if he hangs in until the next election.

There's no pension benefit for him to hang in there - unlike some of your beloved Tory MPs - like Katherine Rich, who completed her three terms as (an electorally unwanted) List MP before retiring on a comfortable lifetime pension (with perks). She was tipped to be a rising star in the new National Government, but she didn't need to do any more...

Thanks for clarifying that and yes I have almost as much contempt for Tory politicians who do the minimum to be eligible for that lucrative pension and other benefits. But moreso for the lefties who espouse equality but happily and hypocritically take the perks anyway.
The honourable thing would have been for Carter to resign and test his body of support by contesting a by-election. But that is whay he didnt do so as he already knows what the outcome would be. He has got to be about the most despicable politician around at present.

I agree to a certain point. I suspect that Carter will keep a very low profile over the next year, and will be all but invisible in parliament, while drawing his nice salary package. He may indeed be happy to pay the draconian $10 per day "fine" for being absent from The House on each sitting day.

In fairness though, he has a huge majority in his Te Atatu electorate, and still has a loyal electorate base. He may choose to pour his time into local electorate work to avoid the limelight, which is no bad thing - time will tell.

I have no real issue with elected MPs remaining if ousted from their political party. I detest the List MPs who think they have a mandate to remain in parliament when ejected from their party. At least David Garrett did the right thing.

True, their current performance review is supposed to be every three years! (sort of)

They have protected themselves against real performance reviews by the electorate with the brand of MMP they cunningly foisted upon us!

How many have we seen fired out of electoral seats only to reappear through the "back door" of the party vote!

The electorate does not vote a government "in", the add hock election results simply gives them permission to form a government of their (the politicians) "own" choosing, it's out of the electorates hands by this stage!

The electorate can sometimes vote them out but the number of ducks that need to be lined up for that to happen is loaded in the "politicians favour" and largely controlled by the media!

Once in parliament it's harder to get rid of them than it is to get rid of a dose of the clap, current situation is a classic example of that!

I urge everyone think carefully about the vote you make on MMP or it's replacement!

I personally do not want to return to FPP (first past the post) but prefer the STV (single transferable vote) because it makes the elected politician more responsible to the electorate! (the people who vote for them)

What would you all prefer? A dose of the pox or Nick Smith? It will be easier to get rid of the pox, believe me!
