    Trackdays

    Hello all,

I am currently looking into running trackdays at Manfield and Taupo as I feel there are not enough trackdays as is.

I want to hear everyones ideas on how the days should be run, formats etc and if there is enough interest to start another trackday company. I have just seen that Redline wont be running any days this summer.

Let me know any thoughts you guys have

    Nick

First, you need to find out what days the track is available and how much. You may need to front that money and recoup from sales.
Then, I suggest you talk to the likes of Frosty, who has run them in the past.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

I am hoping to get a good response from this

I have sent Frosty an email last week but have not heard anything yet

I will be looking to run them on Friday or sat/sun as there is no point in running them mid week unless I hear otherwise.

I'm from the UK so when I found out the rates etc I was surprised to see only a couple of companies running them even with a low population count.

I for one will definitely attend any extra trackdays. Redlines departure has left a void hopefully someone else will fill. Frosty tried to get one going last season. Maybe this year more people will join and make it happen.

What are more people likely to attend- open track days or groups?

    id prefer groups

im also from uk and the cost of trackdays here is very very cheap by comparison.

there several track dasy i was going to do this year but due to work etc, i cant go during the week so sats and sundays are best i reckon!

I prefer open track, So much more value for money. I think some people might feel intimidated by an open trackday, I know I was. But with a good group of people, I felt as safe as any other trackday I have done. Redline days were the best in my book.

Moto TT seem to have moved from Taupo to Manfield this season, not sure of the reason but it could be to do with the availability of Taupo, so thats the first thing to check.
Groups vs Open track. This depends on your target market. Trackday addicts & racers would prefer open track, but less experienced trackday riders would prefer groups.
I would vote open track and use it as a race test day.
    Weekends at Taupo please!
Good luck & keep us posted!

Yes please to more track days, Fri and weekends are great. I perfer groups as I have not done a open day. But you can see already by replies how would come to what.

One idea for set up would be to contact insurance companies to see what they need to cover people for insurance. As I will not go unless I can get cover. Star insurance seem to be the most common company so start with them many be?

Cheers and good luck will look forward to updates.

Go to Hampton downs and see how a good track day is run, they are the best I have come across. Track day riders like grouped sessions. If you like open days you would go to the scheduled test days cause there cheap

The other thing is insurance....I don't think anyone would be covered in an open day. But there is no reason like redline you couldn't do a mixture of both.

The model that was proposed by Frosty (and he ran at least one day on this basis) was a good one. Not so much a full track day (with novice group) but a single or two group format offering far more track time than a normal trackday to riders which are not absolute novices. Numbers limited to 40.

It worked very well I thought.... especially when the alternative (MOTOTT) don't offer much track time (they only aim for 4 sessions - 5 if they can get it) ...for me thats not worth the trip to Taupo.

There's an opportunity here for sure...
