    Woman brutally attacked

I don't care if they panicked the dirty little bastards.

Get rid of money and there'd be no reward for this sorta shite.

    Hoodies huh? How surprising.

This sorta stuff is enough to make me forget that I am a peaceful and law-abiding citizen...mostly

    This:

Should be the 'reward' for such shite behaviour! Not much chance with all the PC wowsers around though....

Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that, who cares? ...He's a mile away and you've got his shoes

I'll line up with rotten eggs and fruit to throw after the whupping! But let's not forget that "their feelings might be hurt too much from the humiliation". Tough shit. Bring back public stocks I say.

It has become daily reading to see an article about a group of youths beating someone to the ground and then kicking them unconscious/ in the face and head.

Are the youths who do this so broken as human beings that they are beyond repair? Is it worth trying to make them civilised? How many more people like this woman have to suffer, and possibly have permanent brain damage or emotional trauma, like this before our legal system changes?

From my experience working with youth offenders I believe they would probably not be afraid of your whipping at all, and have probably had that and much worse in their life already. I know you all think that beating someone to within an inch of their life will teach them that beating someone to within an inch of their life is wrong, but I suggest they have already been taught that it is an acceptable way to get what you want. None of the violent youth offenders that I see grew up in 'time out' families. I totally understand your anger, but as the saying goes "for every complex problem there is a simple solution, and it's wrong".

rustyrobot, as someone who actually deals with them (good on you), can you please tell us if there is a happy ending? Do any rehabilitate from this low state, or do they just continue down this road into prison?

I realise you can't comment on specifics, but a generalisation from someone with experience would be great. Say, one-in-ten completely turnaround, or whatever...

Some encouraging news would be nice to read. So many of us get the impression that the situation is hopeless.

Yeah .. people can and do change ....

It appears that many Māori men run out of steam at around the age of 30 years and stop criminal activities ... however Pākehā men criminals tend to never stop ...

I take your point, I do.

My solution is a bullet in the head, followed by another bullet in the head.

Rationale is purely economic: I would end up supporting these scum for the rest of their days, and crucially, encouraging them to breed the next generation of scum. Yes, encouraging: its not like they will ever have jobs or be productive members of the body politic, and in the absence of an option of transport to the colonies (or even some offshore island somewhere) then the humane alternative is euthanasia.

Not too many repeat offenders after my solution is implemented I bet.

I'm inclined to agree - once someone has violent offended two or three times there's little chance for them ... bullet in the head before they get worse and do more damage ..
