Its not like they leave their jobs at NASA or the JPL and go "I'm going to go get a skinful of speights or Tui (or whatever the dreadful "beer'" of choice of the lower classes is these days) and then beat an innocent bystander. then I will go back to my work on next gen space shuttle propulsion technology"

I hear Australia is useful for this kind of solution. Otherwise there is always the South Island.

Seriously though, I don't understand why people aren't made to work during their prison sentences. They should be able to make enough of whatever to almost neutralise the cost of their incarceration. The money now spent on prisons could be redirected towards things like parenting classes/support for young parents, and other social projects to keep young people involved with their community, and also in supporting victims of crime (who need to be more of a priority). I also like the idea of a years compulsory social work after high-school as in Germany, building pathways, helping out with the elderly etc. Something to rehumanise young people before they offend.

    And racist ones ...

Crims come in all shapes and sizes ... white, yellow, red and brown ...

I don't care ... shoot them all ... that's not based on a racist or classist attitude ... racism and clasism should be criminal offences ... and the offenders shot ..

Pol Pot was right - you can't kill and idea ... only the people who hold that idea ..

Yes, encouraging: its not like they will ever have jobs or be productive members of the body politic, and in the absence of an option of transport to the colonies (or even some offshore island somewhere) then the humane alternative is euthanasia.

Not too many repeat offenders after my solution is implemented I bet.
Yes, on reflection and after reading some of the comments opposed to the public flogging I have now come to the conclusion a firing squad would be the most cost efficient remedy.
I think this course of action would all but eliminate recidivist criminal activity.

if living was free, you could probably do it yourself at a Group Class where a doctor will show you how to do it yourself. I've had both of my big toes done (still got a shard of nail that grows in one corner, starts ripping the socks, pull it with pliers tri-monthly, wife go ) and it probably is something you could do yourself, whenever you had the time to go to the class . You can then pass that knowledge on, or do strangers feet for them, should you be bery sneaky. So yes.
    I didn't think!!! I experimented!!!

So, I'm in prison... how are you going to make me work during my prison sentence? You say,"Work!", I say, "Come try and make me screw, and I'll stick a sharpened tooth brush in your eye socket".

The only alternative I can see making it viable is a quite brutal prison system... and given that that would probably produce people we'd need to shoot anyway, I guess we're back to square one.... now where is my Weatherby?

Especially when you do the math, cost of keeping a prisoner in a NZ jail - approx $92,000 p.a. versus average cost of a bullet - approx $1.50. Even if you had a full firing squad of say six people, it's still looking good.....

Don't they cut the nuts off of pets to make them more placid? Would that work?
