I still like the idea of a some kind of prison island.
I wonder how much someone would enjoy life after they had to fight for it.
Like Banditbandit said, keep em there until their 40's.
Then offer them a simple job and some something to live for.

    Would it work?

Bloody low life thugs who deserve to rott in Hell. How would they feel if that happened to their own, eg: Sister, Mother, Aunty or girlfriend.
Tough guys they think they are but they are actually Mongrels and here's hoping that 1 day it happenes to them Big Time.

None of the violent youth offenders that I see grew up in 'time out' families. I totally understand your anger, but as the saying goes "for every complex problem there is a simple solution, and it's wrong".
Simple solution - Put them to death. Problem solved.
