Bruce Anstey has win at IOMTT

New Zealand rider Bruce Anstey continued his fine run of form earlier today, lifting the Scottish Life International TT Superstock win after team-mate Adrian Archibald ran out of fuel at the Bungalow on the final lap while leading by 20 seconds.

Crikey, that'd be a gruelling race! Fifty-four minutes...
While on the subject of racing (sorry for the thread semi-hijack), I see that Ben Townley and Josh Coppins did well in the MX this weekend too!
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Bloody mighty, great to see Bruce doing so well overseas. I remember photographing him one year when he won five or six different championships - 250, 600 SP, Open SP, Harley (well, you gotta cut the guy some slack for that!) and one or two others.

Great rider, wonder how he'd do in Superbikes?
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!

Sorry for the hijack again - here's the article from The Harold for those who didn't see it:

    07.06.05
Josh Coppins and Ben Townley finished second and third respectively in the British MX1 Grand Prix yesterday, the first time the Kiwi pair have shared a podium in the world championship.

Belgium's Stefan Everts, the championship leader, topped the podium after winning both heats, with Coppins fourth and second respectively and Townley third and fifth.
With his third podium finish in seven rounds, Coppins moved into third from fourth in the standings, on 243 points. Townley remained fifth on 204.
Everts, the 2004 MX1 world champion, has 301 points, a lead of 40 over France's Mickael Pichon.
"It was really cool to have both of us up on the podium," Coppins said after the grand prix at Matchams Park, near Bournemouth.
Townley and Coppins are good friends and share a house in Belgium.
"This is a good result for New Zealand motocross and New Zealand sport," Coppins said.
Coppins, who won the 2004 British MX1 GP on the Isle of Wight, said he was not too disappointed at not having defended his title.
Matchams Park is famed for its energy-sapping fine sandy soil that turns into a rough and demanding surface, and the track contained several big tabletops and a spectacular section of jumps.
"The way track conditions were, we knew it would be hard to beat Everts," ' said Coppins, who rides for the British CAS Honda team.
Townley, who took his first MX1 pole position after setting the fastest time in qualifying, tangled in a first corner pile-up in the first heat and had to play catch-up, blazing through the field on his works KTM to move into 10th spot by the second lap.
He caught up as far as Coppins and the two battled until Coppins lost his goggles and settled for fourth behind Townley.
The second heat was another tussle between the New Zealanders.
"The second race, we passed each other maybe three or four times," Coppins, 28, said.
"We were no more than two seconds apart the whole race, then I put some pressure on and Ben made a mistake for me to pass.
"It was great racing between us, we had a good, fun race."
Townley, the 2004 MX2 world champion, said the entire track was demanding.
"I found it tough. I recovered well in the first race, but I used a lot of energy as well coming back to third place.
"Going into the second race I knew it was going to be tough so I tried to ride consistent," the 20-year-old from Taupo said.
Coppins said: "Today was a track that normally would not suit me so to finish second is good for my confidence - I think I'll go better in Italy."
The next round of the world championship is this weekend's Italian Grand Prix at Castiliogne del Lago, in northern Italy.
    MX1 standings

    * Stefan Everts (Belg, Yamaha) 301pts
    * Mickael Pichon (France, Honda) 261
    * Josh Coppins (NZ, Honda) 243
    * Joel Smets (Belgium, Suzuki), 238
    * Ben Townley (NZ, KTM) 204

Can't have been very much in the way of fuel as the Bungalow is just a few corners from the end. He would have been gutted.

Clerk of the Course Neil Hansen says every check is made to fuel fillers at the Grandstand to make sure they are up to scratch.

It follows claims by TAS Suzuki boss, Hector Neill, that the reason Adrian Archibald's bike didn't get enough fuel for its last lap yesterday (Monday) in the Superstock race was because the filler used was slower than that tested in practice.

We also used a filler to refuel our lad...... if you look in the tank you can see if it's full!!!!
