    FXR not working

After an about 5km/hr drop Friday before last with basically no damage I was able to ride my FXR150 home without any problems. Then the bike sat until Monday due to the storm. When I went to take it to uni at the start of the week I put the key in and turned it and no lights on the dash and no spark when I tried to start it.

I've tried charging the battery but is there anything that you guys can think of that an absolute beginner with basically no mechanical or electrical knowledge I might be able to check out?

Have you checked that your kill switch isn't turned off?

Have you tried kick starting it yet?

Failing that you could chuck into 2nd gear and crash start it?

You have checked that the battery is connected properly etc? Also check that the dash is actually plugged in. Do you know where to look for that?

Let us know if that doesn't work. There is not to much that could go wrong with an FXR....

Oh yeah, check that your fuse is not blown. Its under left rear fairing.... Could be a possibility!

If you get seriously stuck (and can wait that long) flick me a PM and I'll try and pop round next weekend for a look.

Thanks I'll have a look at the fuse this weekend and hopefully I won't need the help. Otherwise I will get in touch with either of you two

Sigh. Replaced the fuse which was obviously blown today, turned the key and *pop* the darn thing is blown again. Any ideas what is likely to be causing this? Should be having a mate who is a car mechanic and has a dirt bike coming over tomorrow to have a look at it.

A short most likely. Did you break any bulbs or anything when you dropped the bike?

No, I checked all of them when I got it back up and was able to turn it on and ride it home again at the end of the day. I'll check all the bulbs and see if they're still working. The drop maybe could have weakened them and the ride home/time just let them die

Did you get this fixed? and if so what was the problem? Always interested in these things in case I come across them myself later on.

Is it correct rated fuse (refer to owners manual)?
As said it's probably a a short somewhere, so check around where the damage was done.

And just for reference FXRs don't need a battery to run (and can run on a dead battery).

Heya got very busy with uni so was only able to get out and look at it properly with a multimeter yesterday. Just came on here to happily say that the fixxer is back on the road!
My bike lives inside at all times when not being ridden so water was never gonna be the problem. Problem was one of the coverings over the connectors to the brake light from the brake lever shifted when my dad tried to readjust the brake lever (not asked for cause I wanted to check it out properly first), creating the short.
Thanks to everyone for the advice
