Blah Let them build the mosque, I have a plan...

I am perplexed that so many of my friends are against a mosque being built
near Ground Zero. I think it should be the goal of everyone to be
tolerant. The mosque should be allowed, in an effort to promote
    tolerance.

That is why I also propose, that two gay nightclubs be opened next door
to the mosque thereby promoting tolerance within the mosque. We could call
the clubs "The Turban Cowboy" and "You Mecca Me So Hot".

Next door should be a butcher shop that specializes in pork and have an
open barbeque with spare ribs as its daily special. Across the street a
very daring lingerie store called "Victoria Keeps Nothing Secret" with sexy
mannequins in the window modeling the goods.

Next door to the lingerie shop, there would be room for an Adult Toy Shop
(Koranal Knowledge?), its name in flashing neon lights, and on the other
side a liquor store, maybe call it "Morehammered"?

    Problem solved, everybody happy.....

I think you've missed the point.

We are required to be tolerant of them.

They are not required to be tolerant of us.

This has been widely demonstrated when they want to bring their culture to our country, but there's no way in hell we're allowed to take our culture to their country.

Sadly your plan is doomed to failure.

I don't get what message you are trying to make here. Apart from the fact that you conveniently ignore all the muslim countries which are tolerant and have christian churches and liberal social systems, you're looking mighty hypocritical.

It appears that you are saying Islam is 'bad' because it is intolerant. Therefore you are going to be intolerant of Islam. In which case they could say Western/Christian/(whatever you align yourself with culture) is bad because it is intolerant. I do wonder what lessons you give your children.

Besides which the neighbourhood of the planned cultural centre evidently already has a number of 'red light' type shops/establishments. Do you really think that hasidic jewish areas of Israel are any more tolerant than the hardline Islamic areas? Or the deep christian south of America?

    Grey Wolves in aucks....

The Idealist Youth (Turkish: Ülkücü Gençlik), commonly known as Grey Wolves (Turkish: Bozkurtlar), is an ultra-nationalist[1] neo-fascist[2][3][4][5][6][7][8] youth organization. It is accused of terrorism[2][4][5] and infiltration of European policy.[9][10] According to Turkish authorities, the organization carried out 694 murders from 1974–1980.

I don't think the Koran advises its followers to kill people.
The Bible, on the other hand, has a bunch of infractions that require the death penalty as a punishment.
Christianity is as fucked up as any other religion.
Worshiping imaginary friends seems rather peculiar to me.

I was at the proposed site last week, and it's not even that close to the "Hallowed Ground of which needs protecting".

There is a Strip club on the same block though.
