    Unused helmets?

Has anyone got an old helmet that you don't use anymore? I'm fed up using an open face helmet when i have my miss on the back so it's time for her to get a new one. So if anyone has a small helmet that they would be willing to let go for cheap then it would be much appreciated

Would have thought that with the nick Ride Fast live long .. you would like to protect the asset of your brain a little more than buying a second hand helmit.

New full face helmets can be had for 100 bucks or less. Whether you get new or used make sure you get one that fits eh?

Please dont buy a secondhand helmet. Save up a few squids and go and buy one, there are cheapies that meet NZ safety ratings around.

You are in Kapiti - try Bike Clinic or Twin Cam in Paraparumu - they should be able to get you something for about $100.

I know the plain colour Oxford ones are $100 or so. I just got a plain black one as a spare for pillions for $45 + $10 freight from Cycletreads in Auckland (it was listed on Trademe, ex shop stock). They said they had S, M, L & XL and I only bought one so they might have more available.

You'd almost pay more for second hand than a new cheaper model....and with second hand you don't know what you are getting despite what the seller says.

Never ever buy a used helmet. Especially for your other half. That's one of the first things I learnt when I started riding. Used jacket etc maybe but never a helmet. You can't know what's happened to it and if it's had a drop it will be almost worthless (better than no helmet admittedly). I'm glad you give her the full face though when she's pillion.

Yeah, you wouldn't want a senior mod to change your name to
"Ride Fast Live Long With A Cheap Ass Second Hand Helmet". Phew, that was a mouthful.

Many moons ago, my first helmet was as nasty as you could possibly imagine, cost me $30 at a pawn shop - was black, had been dropped more times than something that is dropped often, I eventually binned it after one of the visor hinges snapped off at 50kph and it tried to snap my neck
