Nigerian scams coming to your telephones

It has been brought to my attention, that some certain scammers have been ringing household numbers in the vain attempts to pull the wool over your eyes.

I was called about 1 week ago by some asian woman, rather broken english and not particularly fluent, being told that my windows might be infected by viruses after downloading corrupted files.
I honestly thought nothing of it, told her to fuck off and promptly hung up.

Today, I was approached by a colleague. 'Hey, my ISP rang me up last night saying that my computer is infected due to corrupted downloads and showed me to an antivirus page. They ended up wanting my credit card details and shit but I don't have a credit card. Do you have an antivirus I could use?"
"Did they speak fluent english, and did the AV run a scan in your browser almost instantly?"
'No, and yes they did, why?'
"You were targeted by a scam artist."

Further investigation showed this was not an isolated case, nor coincidence.

So if you get any funky calls about corrupted downloads that try to make you buy an antivirus software, just hang up. Might pay to tell your friends/relatives that may not be tech savvy.
Some people just can't seem to comprehend that they do not have the right to be unoffended in their lives.

Or better yet, ask them to hold on while you get your credit card, put the phone down and leave it for 25 minutes (approximate ISP wait time). If they are still on the line repeat step 1.

    Yeah I had similar one,
Claimed they were microsoft and that my windows 'were' infected with a virus.
Told them not to worry - I would clean them with Janola tomorrow.

Being plagued with telephone scammers lately checking our "bank details"!

They are not programmed to receive messages like, "fuck off you cunt"! they just carry on as if you weren't even there!

Have complained to everyone but John Key and they just keep on ringing, over and over and over!

Tried a few more angry versions of "fuck off" but to no avail.

Gone quiet now but it leaves you feeling pissed off and a bit powerless at the time.
