Not sure how you manage that in your neck of the woods. Up here if you start going a bit fast JC will put a stop watch on you and if you come in under 34 seconds you get the boot up. Keeps the B grade safe with less speeddiference but has made the A grade a bit intense. We've had 33 people sign on for 18 spots in the points races.
Hard enough to qualify, let alone score points.
thats why we need a timing system... qualifing for these NI races would be the icing on the cake.
There are a couple of options around now that are less expensive than the full on transponder systems used at real bike racing, still not cheap though. Check out Zoomius and Hardcards on the interwebs.
In a 10 lap race I can time 4 bikes with one stop watch, one lap per bike. 3 people on Sat practice 10 mins could do 12 bikes. Only a rough idea I know, but sorts the A's from the B's for raceday Sunday and gives the riders an idea of where they should be, what to aim for, or if they are improving or not.
Faster, faster, faster, until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death. (HT)
Superpole Saturday? Could be a bit of fun.
You only get timed if JC thinks you are going a bit fast for the B grade.
Theory is that the B grade is an invitation class to keep things a bit safer.
When you get the boot your points stay behind.
It does work though, scariest time to be on track is in open practice when the speed differentials and lines taken can vary quite a bit from rider to rider, and the less experienced can get freaked out as they get strafed by the faster guys and don't know to hold their line when they hear someone come up from behind.
a few more.
The race photos are up now. Check out http://picasaweb.google.com/pipsons5
