    Metallica- Concert report.

Bloody Awesome concert! The very best I've been to in a number of years!! AC/DC was really good but this was another level! The crowd was awesome everyone knew every word of every song! The band was just "on to it" all night. I rocked hard out all night! Talk about sweat and stink ferkin good night!!

There are a few concerts that will remain in my memory banks as top notch for various reasons, how smashed I was or how much my pocket of the crowd got into it on the day. This was one of those that rate right up there with when Jagger came with Joe Satriani, AC/DC about 10 years ago in the pissing rain in Wellington and the Angels in Wellington town hall. This was one of those that just went off!!

About 1/2 way through the bourbon had worn off enough for me to just stop rockin stand and watch the brilliant musicianship of the band for about 3 songs! AC/DC play awesome punchy rock but these guys have another depth and complexity to their music. It's funny how they all seem to get drawn to and around Lars, he seems to have a very strong presence in the band. And there ain't no more imposing figure in rock than James Hatfield!

I got the distinct impression they really got off on the crowd reaction to them, after the show they looked as stoked as we where! Still buzzing, that was simply a great night!!!

On a bad note fuck Auckland sucks.
After battling the Auckland traffic from 3:30 till 6pm to get from East Tamaki to Avondale to do some site levels for someones plans (15 min job). I then had to battle Auckland's second biggest stuff up! The Public transport system!! The bus in was ok we make up a brew in a coke bottle and have a discrete few on the way in. I thought 8 bucks each was crap but at least it got us in! Then after the concert my boy said we'd better get to the last bus out east before 11:30. What, I said no midnight bus?? Well I thought we'd made it as we where watching the bus lane as we jogged towards britomart, no buses at the stop coming or going for the 2-3 minutes it took us make our way and sit down at the stop! I looked at their clock as we sat down 11:31. Shit hot made it! ye right! NO bus, check time table yep shouda been an 11:30?? Check ferries to 1/2 Moon Bay, nope but can't gripe at them to much for not having boats that late. Grab the last bus to Panmure then taxi home!
$50 bucks to get to a concert and back that sucks! I can bloody near get to wellington on the bike for that!
Between the motorways and the public transport I would never recommend anyone sets up business in this city, its the biggest cock up. And I reckon its too late to ever fix it. The infrastructure simply hasn't grown with the city,. Not like the rail system in Wellington for example!
Someone needs a good rogering for the complete balls up Auckland is, and will always be! They'll never fix it.

Back on the positive! Metallica was just Awesome, the band, the venue, the weather, the people!! I was sittin in the spa at 1:30 with a microwave pie and a final Tui still buzzing! What a great night!! Feelin so good I even made my run this morning to Metallica on the ear phones of coarse!!

Hope all those that went enjoyed it as much as me!!

On a Motorcycle you're penetrating distance, right along with the machine!! In a car you're just a spectator, the windshields like a TV!!

'Life's Journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out! Shouting, ' Holy sh!t... What a Ride!! '

I wouldn't put it in my top 5 concerts ever, but then I was stuck in the seats. Was it worth the 23 years that have elapsed since I bought "Master of Puppets"? Hell yeah.

I hadn't heard any of the Death Magnetic stuff before last night, and it did seem more filler than killer but they stormed through some classics which pretty much tore the roof off Vector arena. They paced it well too, building up to a full run though "Master" chilling out with an instrumental medley and then building up again...a brief rest and then the encore "Am I Evil" and finishing with "Seek and Destroy" with the lights up...awsome, even if I'm not the 17 year old that bought that first album anymore.

Yeah it was a great concert. Good to see you there Reckless.

My crew were 2-3 rows from the front, going hard all night.

My only complaints are the same things you get at any concert nowadays; "no moshing" signs, precious little pussies who "don't like being pushed" but want to be right up the front all the same and security guards who tell you off for pushing people (What the hell does that even mean?)

Here's the full song-list from last night

    That Was Just Your Life
    Cyanide
    Ride the Lightning
    Fuel
    Fade to Black
    Of Wolf and Man
    All Nightmare Long
    Sad But True
    The Unforgiven
    Orion
    One
    Master of Puppets
    Fight Fire With Fire
    Nothing Else Matters
    Enter Sandman
    Am I Evil?
    Phantom Lord
    Seek and Destroy

I can almost seem myself up in the stands in reckless' second photo haha

First concert i have ever been to. Was bloody good. Would have been better on the floor i think!

Not a massive fan of the new stuff but 'All nightmare long' was 10X better live than on CD.

They're doing a different cover every night in the encores apparently - night before was "Breadfan".

I've got every Budgie album and every Diamond Head album, even "Canterbury", on vinyl...

I know!! I was stoked when they played it in Chch too, awesome!
They didn't play Fade to Black at the one we went to, which is my fav, but they did do Turn the Page, which I was almost as happy about.

Orion isn't on the set list for any shows other than the Auckland one last night.

No I lie, it was Damage Inc.
AND that I was surprised to hear! Then again, they could've just played all of MOP and a few others and I would've gone home a happy camper.

Bloke at work did Christchurch then Auckland - thought they were 'ace'.

However I have discovered that the problem with true Metallica fans is that they could stand in the front row and be pissed on my the band and it would still be 'the best ever' show!

    Hardcore buggers.

I have attempted a few Metallica songs on Guitar Hero - I got booed off stage

I shall remain a closet fan with my single album (hey no Honda jokes).

From the 3 news article above:

there was a genuine air of camaraderie between the band - who looked like kids in a candy store with beaming smiles throughout - and the audience, who took their participation to another level again from the previous night.”

I felt it down on the floor there was certainly a good 'vib' goin on, as I eluded to in my post!
I'm a rock fan but not necessarily a hard core Metallica fan. I own 6 of their albums but I can't quote their history or remember all the words to their songs, but it was a good concert!
