Interesting cost cutting etc in Australasian Superbike FX Summer series

The guts of it is a restriction to 1 control set (1 front, 1 rear) of Dunlop slicks for the 1 qualifying session and 4 shorter races.

The Championship is run as a series of 1 day events, with unofficial practice the day before if you want.

2 of the 3 rounds are Day/Nighters on a Saturday, finishing up at approx 8:00pm.

In short you only need one set of tyres, the tyres are exactly the same as everyone elses, and depending where you lived you wouldn't even have to take a day off work to attend. Reduced tyre costs, reduced accomodation costs, reduced time away from family and other commitments all sounds pretty good to me.

More importantly, it would make it a lot easier for any Kiwi's looking to get some top level competition.

I like the idea of limiting tyres, the only reason i put new tyres on is everyone else does and i dont want a disadvantage!

1 new front and 2 rears for qualifying and race is what I think we should be restricted to.

In SS there is a similar rule but it should include qualifying so effectively you only save one front $300 give or take Still 3 rears and 2 fronts

Be good to see ya over there again mate. They're running your preferred tyres now and one sicky on the Friday would set you up for practice and race days, home on Sunday: sweet!

MNZ had a rule like this, but it fell out of the Rule book a number of years ago because riders wanted the number of tyres for a weekends racing to be uncontrolled .
Funny how things go in circles isnt it?????

Yeah, I'm totally with you there Choppa.

I have thought for a while that allowing 2 sets of tyres only for 600's to do qualifying and 2 races would be well workable.
Apart from reducing cost by one rear tyre, this has the advantage of the riders being able to run the front tyre from qualifying in one of the races, which would give some flexibility in regards to the vastly differing conditions between the morning race, and the afternoon race - as in you could run a stronger tyre for afternoon qualifying and race two if the track was hot and abraisive, and use a soft as your second tyre for the morning when it's cooler.
It would make sense on a lot of levels, but I hear that similar suggestions have been greeted with opposition from certain sectors . . . . . .

Might have something to do with how much those people pay for there tyres and that there brand wears out quick.

The supp regs aint out for the nats so its still something that could be looked at

The only thing with this rule is that no one will want to do many laps in qualifying so the session may not be very good for spectators but otherwise a good rule.

Yeah I can remember a grumpy little Ginga going head to head at riders briefing with Steve Ward who was then President of Motorcycling Canterbury ( 2000? maybe)with Steve wanting the rule enforced and the grumpy little Ginga wanting it changed to allow more tyres as MNZ had already caved in and allowed it to happen at Puke which was the first round back then
