Harley recovery continues/Bajaj makes record profit on exports

Not all bad news out there, as both Harley-Davidson and Bajaj issued positive results.

Harley’s 3rd quarter profit more than tripled, on the back of their financial-service business. Restructuring of the motorcycle division, where severe cost-cutting has been implemented has also assisted results as demand has made a “slight” recovery.

Meanwhile, Bajaj – India’s 2nd largest manufacturer – reported a 69% increase in profits, fuelled by record economic growth in their domestic market, plus an increase in exports.

Bajaj’s total sales, including exports, surpassed 1 million vehicles in the fiscal second quarter.

You would hope Harley would pull a profit considering the huge downsizing of assets.

Last I heard, they were even thinking of shutting down one of the plants and moving majority of operations to one location.

I think what you're referring to is Harley were looking at leaving Milwaukee.

    News items covering this:

    Harley to remain in Wisconsin:

For Harley to move overseas would be their death-knell. Their big selling point is being "All American". As I found when I looked into this stuff, they were looking at moving to a different state - and at least two other states were making proposals to lure them. If they did move, that'd turn Milwaukee into a ghost-town, as the other major employers such as Schlitz brewery left years ago.
