Swap HID head light out for WoF

    Hi there,
I brought myself a Hyosung to get to work on. The last owner installed a HID to replace the high beam (low beam is still the standard bulb). So I went to get a WoF this morning and i was a bit worried about the HID. Anyway the inspector guy, says "HID is illegal unless it is a complete upgraded unit". but he reckons he will not get excited about it and passes the bike . Anyway, my question is this: if I need to go to another WoF station that may have an inspector that is not as understanding, can i simple pull out the HID bulb and replace it with a standard bulb so i can get a WoF??
    cheers

No. If it really is a HID system, it's an entirely different technology to standard incandescent bulbs. The bulb won't fit, and if you somehow made it fit it would not work. I say "if" it really is HID because a lot of people don't know the difference between halogen and HID. If you just have a halogen bulb in there, then you can do what you are proposing.

Does your bike have a separate headlamp for high and low beams? i.e. a completely seperate reflector and everything for high and low beam? A quick google image search on your model doesn't show it clearly. IF the high and low beams are separate units, and the previous owner replaced the whole unit for the high beams-including reflectors-then you are legal and the WoF guy is speaking from his rectum.

    HID unit

If its an upgrade kit like this

    http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...-322269443.htm

you can just swap the bulb and reconnect the old bulb connector if its a problem to the wof inspector next time

The other thing to note is that an HID light has a ballast ( small box about the size of a cigarette packet) so have a look and see if there is one connected to you high beam

BTW i read in thwe wof guidelines that HID upgrades are not acceptable the need to be original equipment

    Hope that helps
    Cheers
