Make sure you have this in your calendar:

    http://whiteribbon.org.nz/category/w...bon-ride-news/

Join the White Ribbon Motorcycle Ride to raise awareness of men’s violence towards women.
The ride leaves from Tauranga traveling to Wellington via State Highway One. There it will divide and travel from Parliament up the east and west coasts to Auckland and then on to Bream Bay.
If you own a bike and want to ride with other men that believe violence is an issue worth riding for, then join us. Violence destroys families, sets our children on a destructive journey and affects one in three women.
The ride will visit over 40 communities throughout the North Island with a stand-alone ride in Christchurch. At each destination, the ride will be met by communities who are organising a wide range of activities from marches and parades, to breakfasts and competitions.
As a rider, you can make a difference by joining the ride to raise awareness and help men to take action against violence. Riders can participate in the whole ride over the 7 days or simply ride between two towns. The ride will be led by the Super Maori Fullas and the Patriots Defence Force Motorcycle Club. They are responsible for the safety of the ride and speaking to media and representing the riders at the community events

In 2010 the White Ribbin Ride has the following rides:

See, what pisses me off with all this is Why only against women? Surely it should read to "Show your against domestic violence"

Violence in ANY relationship is bad mmmmm'kay (unless of course it is a relationship built between sparring partners)

Sorry should have been posted in the discussion thread, can a moderator move it please.

    Thumbs up

I'm looking forward to it! My man and I will be part of the ride from Wellington, we were gonna go as far as Dannevirke but I see on the schedule they won't arrive there until early evening so we may just ride to Masterton.

I'm hoping I can get it as a work day!
My goal in life is to be as good a person as my dog already thinks I am.

Taken directly from the White Ribbon site:
"White Ribbon offers men the opportunity to be part of the solution to end violence against women.

Violence is endemic within New Zealand. One in three women are victims of violence from a partner, while on average fourteen women are killed each year by a member of their own family.

White Ribbon is a campaign led by men who condemn violence against women and take action. We are part of a global campaign committed to ending violence against women." http://whiteribbon.org.nz/

But, if you do genuinely want to know why not contact an organiser and ask them for a more detailed explanation? http://whiteribbon.org.nz/about/contact-us/

It's not denying that men are also victims of violence at the hand of women btw.

No mention of violence towards men/perpetrated by women

I have heard that the figure in reverse is proportionally higher but cannot provide evidence or actual stats on the numbers of men abused by the women

We would end up in a very circular discussion about this issue

Think the wording needs clarifying,to me (and others)the ride tells the story of a few maori dudes(last year story info)who turned their lives around after serious violence issues with family and partners, which is great, but a few people I spoke to commented that they thought all the guys riding were domestic violence perpertators, not supporters of the cause.Sure the posters say different, but some people say/think the guys are all partner bashers, when riding the tour.

I am always disappointed that misleading and sensationalist statistics are often trotted out at these times.

That statistic infers that one third of women are physically battered, hiding their bruises each day behind make-up and clothing. This is far from the truth.

The figures for "domestic violence" includes the more dubious and less well defined concepts of emotional or psychological abuse and financial manipulation, amongst others. The truth is that most people in a relationship could, if pushed, claim to have been "emotionally abused" by their partner at some stage.

Domestic violence is a major issue in this country. But its seriousness shouldn't be compromised with alarmist distortions.

Yep how many people have said to their loved ones "you're a useless bitch/bastard?" in heat of moment and nothing more.

No, you are wrong. The Super Maori Fullas were never part of violence in any form. They had a very loving big family. But they had vitnessed violence. They felt that everyone should have the right to a similar loving upbringing as they had. So they decided to take the message to the road by riding their bikers. Initially all this was done at their own cost. As what they did started gather momentum, the Families Commission got interested and jumped on the bandvagon.

This all started 1 1/2 years ago and will not go away, thankfully.

This is about stopping violence towards females. But it does not exclude family violence, violence towards children, towards other members of the family. No violence inside a family is OK.

And sadly it is the males who are the biggest culprits here. So this is a chance for males to stand up and do something about stopping this violence. It is not important who you were, what your past is. It is who you are now that matters. And as a male you should stand up and say: "Violence towards our women is not OK". We are here talking about some big strong mean looking guys who are trying to change what is going on. I respect them highly and have been involved with this by bringing them to HB last year, by riding in last years ride, by now being the co-ordinator for HB, and I will ride the whole ride. (And no, I am not, or have ever been, a wife beater)

You can be part of this by riding whatever distance you have time to do. How much you ride is not the point. The participation and adopting the message is.

    See you on the ride!

May the bridges I burn light the way.

Nothing in this thread surprises me, sadly.

Good on you Conquiztador for starting the thread. Will be riding on this again this year.
