Pilot Power vs Pilot Power 2ct - Wozza diff?

OK, so I know that the 2ct has dual compound and the straight power doesn't. This should mean less squaring off in the centre of the 2ct tyre, yes? And maybe more km per set. Oh and if I read the blurb, there is slightly softer rubber on the 2ct edges than the power edges. And a miniscule greater lean angle quoted for the 2ct's. Not that I ever lean that far anyway...

Apart from the above, is there any other difference that you know about?

Fact is The Vixen will need new treads very soon and I am looking at what we can get. I would've been happy with PP2ct's but my supplier of choice (Boyds) don't have stock of the front tyre size in the 2ct's and their supplier has no ETA of more stock. But they have both sizes in the straight PP...so I am tossing up.

Spose I could just get another set of 016's...that's what's on there at the moment and they seem to be OK for the sort of riding I do ("sensible" )...

Course then there's the Pilot Pures, an' the Conti's as well - about which I know eff all...an' Pirellis an' an' an' ...too many choices...

May as well just toss a coin...

The BT016's are meant to be good "hypersport" tires (having just purchased a set they better be haha).

One thing to note is if the ones you have are the originals (ie they were fitted when you bought the bike new). they are a different version (only 1 compound on the front, and 2 on the rear, where as non-oem BT016's have 2 and 3).

Current tyres are the second set, so not OEM's.

That's a great chart Kiwifruit - I haven't come across it before. Muchos Gracias for that.

I thought the 2C PP's were a overall softer compound(s) than the standard PP.

And supply issues with PR2 again ........ poo-sticks to them - this happens every spring!

    Some info.

Don't take offense but from your description of riding style you really have a big choice of fully capable tyres to choose from. All of the new sport-touring hoops are very good performers, and there are some new ones on the market (Angel, Conti Road2) you'll find a lot is just personal preference.

Also consider the tyre profile - the more sporty ones tend to be more pointy (for want of a term) on the front and offer a quicker turn-in when cornering - fine for some, others prefer the rounder sport touring profile that requires more input from the rider to avoid a 'tipping' feeling.

A bike ago I found it took me a bit of time to get used to and trust a front Conti Sport as it dropped into a corner more then being rolled in by me. No worries as it stuck like smelly stuff just unsettled me initially. And no, I'm not gay

I've just come off PP's, 2CT front and standard PP rear. Ok tyres, but if you're not going to get a real sharp price, why not try out the latest greatest, like the Pure's or M5 Metzeler's?

I've just fitted some Pirelli Rosso's, which are probably old technology, but then I also only paid $330 for the pair.

They were talking me into the Pures. But I have read mixed reviews of them - seems they are niggly about pressures...just dunno about them.

I see Cycletreads have the correct size front in the PP 2ct. Could always get one from them if I was totally frantic for them...

Meh. Today I am leaning towards another set of 016's. Tomorrow? Who Knows?

For me the 2ct has been awesome. I had originally a 016 on my Daytona and got 10,000 k out of them which i thought was pretty good, but then i changed them to the PP 2ct and i have now done about 12000k with still plenty of tread on it. Thats doing 2 track days at Hampton Downs too. They still roll into the corners just like a new one.
So all in all i would say that the PP 2ct is pretty damn fine and worth the money.
    My 2c worth.

Yeah I understand pressures need to be kept up due to thinner carcass etc. It's your money of course, so you have to be the one happy with your decision.

    Hey slofox,

    I've had 015's, PR2s, PP2CT, 016s (2 sets B2B), and now Q2s and they're all awesome.

Pick a set based on feel. They all have monster grip and last about the same km. Layman's (me) assessment:

    * 016s if you like neutral
    * PP / 2CT if you like to drop into turns
    * PR2s if you like to drag the bike into turns
    * Q2s if you like to roll into turns (quickly)... and keep on rolling

Also, the PP 2CT centre is the same compound as the PP (I think). If you do a lot of straight up riding and square them then the turn in gets really horrible. Mine did at 3/4 through whereas 016s stay in shape until the last 1000km.

    * Q2s if you like to roll into turns (quickly)... and keep on rolling Sloppy means wobbly.

Also, the PP 2CT centre is the same compound as the PP (I think). If you do a lot of straight up riding and flat spot them then the turn in gets really horrible. Mine did at 3/4 through whereas 016s stay in shape until the last 1000km.
    Thanks SPP - excellent feedback.

Still leaning towards the 016's at this point in time...and even though the current 016 rear is as square as, the turn in isn't as bad as some I have had (thinking the ratshit OEM Dunlops on the SV...)

I had PR2ct's on the SV - two sets B2B, Liked them but they too got lurchy once they flattened off a bit. Oh and the fronts used to scallop to hell as well...

Over all, I have quite liked the way the 016's have performed over the time I've been on them (6 months, 6000km). If it ain't broke, why fix it, huh?
