    Commonwealth Games - crock?

Just spent a few milliseconds watching eNZed vs Wales ladies hockey game. There is NOBODY in the stadium. I shit you not, there's more spectators at my local fitbaw ground on a Saturday afternoon. Only signs of life are security guards and stewards. Ridiculous. You'd have thought they'd let the locals in for next to bugger all.

Wondering what all the poor bastards are going to do with all these plush stadiums they've funded.

All this crap about the poor old athletes having bad accomodation is pissing me off.

What about the poor locals who were kicked out of their homes and are now living in rubbish dumps or on the streets.
How would you guys feel if that was you?

    I am boycotting it.

Also is there anyone else here who finds opening ceremonies a crock of shit? They are all the fcuken same.
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........

Personally I've always had problems with the amount of money poured into these things. I understand a country wanting to capitalise on tourist $ and world wide publicity (always in a good way, they hope). However I find it obscene what financial resources get poured into them when all that money would go such a long way to bettering the life of the citizens. Tourism goes a long way to bringing in cash but without infrastructure and satisfactory standard of living for the people who live there just who is benefitting from it all?

The money required to put on the public spectacles of opening and closing ceremonies for every Commonwealth and Olympic games could fund mega worthwhile causes within the nations they're performed.

Let athletes compete by all means. And I'm not suggesting they go back to the "bare basics" of the original concept from Greece....(although you blokies would be only too happy with that for events such as the beach volleyball for example - btw. I will never understand how that became an olympic games/comm games sport! ) But why, especially in countries where atrocious poverty is such a huge reality, does all this $$ have to be wasted for "spectacle" where each country is really only trying to outdo the last?

where opinion holds more weight than fact.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

Paul Henry was talking about this very thing on Breakfast this morning. He suggested they use the security monkeys ( the ones that scare off the really bad monkeys ) as seat fillers!

I heard that Prince Charles got stopped at the gates and wasn't allowed in for an hour and a half because he didn't have the right pass....
