VMCC RD 6
Wow what an event, predicting what the weather was going to do was entertaining enough, let alone throwing racing in the mix.
Qualifying
It’s taken me a long time to learn but I’ve finally learnt to get out there and go hard right from the start. Ten minutes is not allot of laps on a 150 so this time I went as fast as I could from the start. Sam passed me on my third lap into it so I tucked in behind to see what I could learn. The track was a little wet still and I had a few moments trying to keep up but nothing too scary. I came in satisfied that I’d done reasonably well and was stoaked to find myself second on the grid. So a good start to the weekend.
Race 1
This being my first season I haven’t spent allot of time on the bike so was quite nervous heading into the race knowing it was 20 minutes. I rolled up to the front row of the grid (what a feeling seeing an open track in front of you) the red lights come on and suddenly my nerves disappear. The blue ZXR 250 next to me was a little eager and jumped off the line early which threw me and I didn’t get an excellent start. Never mind because by splash I was running second however the ZXR didn’t want to race today and decided to lay down mid corner. For a few seconds I suffered target fixation and headed straight for the rider sliding down the road, luckily I came to in time and was able to miss him. That’s the second time in two rounds now!!!!!!!!
Unfortunately Sam managed to sneak by me while I played dodgems. I put in some good laps and managed to pass and make a break on him on about lap 4. From there I focused on being smooth and keeping my pace. I managed to take the win!!!!!!!! My first ever!!!!!!!!!!
Race 2
Feeling a bit more comfortable with the shorter race distance and still excited from my win I was at ease arriving on the grid. This time I got a much better start but somehow Daniel Mettam managed to sneak down the inside of me into turn 1, I don’t know how he managed it from the 5th row of the grid. I tried my best to stick with him but was unable to so settled into a rhythm and managed 2nd.
So a good weekend overall, my first race win, my first round win and 4th in Street Stock for the series.
I’d like to thank Vic Club for organising such an awesome well run event. You guys (and girls) all deserve a medal. Oh quick thanks to Action Accessories in Foxton go checkout their awesome range of motorcycle clothing.
