    RD350LC-RGV250 electrical merge

I have fitted a RD-LC flywheel and stator with two pickups from an RGV VJ21.
I'm planning on using the stator to supply power to to the CDI.

My question is how to wire this up.

My guess is to run the three stator wires to the Rectifier. There are two wires out - Green and Red. Red I'm guessing is + and the Green is ? Anyone know? EDIT: There are two wires out - Red and Black/White. Red I'm guessing is + and the Black/White is (-), correct?

On the CDI I've sorted out the coil wires. What's left is a Black/Yellow (tacho), Black/White (-), and Orange/Black. I'm guessing I need to connect the Orange/Black to the Red from the Rectifier. Can anyone confirm?

And a final question for the experts... Do I need to fit the PVCB? Suzuki says I do but they don't know that I don't have power valves. Will the CDI work without it?

Is there any way of testing this stuff?

    Cheers for any help.

You can test it by setting it up in a lathe, lot of work but probably easier than pushing bike up the road for 20 min. I donk know anything about the suzuki PV controller, if it is anything like the YPVS it just has a single tacho input and no feedback to the cdi
My neighbours diary says I have boundary issues

Was the wrong diagram entirely I think. So no help there.

Which model RGV CDI are you using?? K model will work fine without the control unit but the L onwards will not,Also the later model tachos will not work with the earlier model ignition.Best you give me a call

I have got wiring diagrams for LC's, RZ's, ans and RGV's . will have a look and see what wires are what

Is this on your RD400/ZXR hybred? Should be a fun F3 weapon

Thanks Billy, will do. It is the K model.

I've got an RD350LC and the RGV VJ21K wiring diagrams. The Rectifier is something else. Unlike the LC and RGV it only has five wires not six. Even if I find an LC and RGV rectifier I'm still not certain about the wiring.
Yeah, it's the ZXR/RD400 hybrid. Coming along slowly.

I've got an RGV rectifier now (thanks to Slingshot). But I still need to know if the Red feeds the power to the Orange/Black...

I have had the engine running on an RGV250K CDI module but it had a miss which I suspect is the timing advance built into the CDI.
As the RD400 didn't have an advance curve I decided to try the simplest CDI I could find - Jaycars kit KC5466. No problem assembling the CDI and checking it's all OK but it requires an input of 350VAC...
I measured the output of the stator on one wire and got between 8VAC and 12VAC. A friend of mine tried a trick of putting one wire to earth and got 20VAC on the output. This is somewhat short of the 200-350VAC Jaycar says is 'normal'.
A quick call to RDJase (cheers mate) and he gets 48VAC on his TZR.
Finally figured out that the stator I was using had the high voltage CDI wires cut off and only the lighting circuit wires left. Novice that I am I used those. Wrong. It works on the RGV CDI as that has it's own step up transformer in the unit so it doesn't need the high voltage charge. In fact the RGV stator only has power that will be rectified. I don't know that.
Anyway, back to the current CDI set up. The stator has three wires; brown, red and black. I've run the black to earth (both chassis, engine and CDI), the red to each CDI for power.
Now it runs again but still has a miss.
After much head scratching and thinking Sketchy and I sorted the miss. You would expect the pickups to fire the coils at the same point as the trigger comes pass wouldn't you? Well, my setup doesn't.
For whatever reason coil one fires as the trigger exits the pickup and coil two fires as the trigger enters the pickup. This means the included angle for the 90° firing is: 135°! Yep, I was wrong to assume I could set #1 at 2mm BTDC and then set #2 90° later. Strangely the RGV has the triggers set at 90° so there must be something else going on in the CDI or loom that I can't see.

Never mind - it's only taken 3 weeks to get the new setup running. I have a very patient wife.

I now need to make a new back plate, flywheel and mounts for the triggers. Anyone got spares?
I also need a replacement RD400 flywheel cover... Yeah, right.
