    Here's a novel idea.

Lets get away from the whole concept of having to have the latest model of EVERYTHING every year or two. The latter half of the 20th Century introduced the concept of planned obsolescence, and it accelerated towards the end of the 20th Century by being incorporated with fashion.

Be happy with what you have; don't ditch it just because it isn't new, or cool.

That will make a massive difference.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

    - James Dickey, Cherrylog Road.

The answer is simple; people consume resources. The more people there are, the more resources are consumed. Conversely, the fewer people there are, the fewer resources are consumed.

So the answer is: reduce the number of people on the planet.

To do this I think everyone should have to apply for a breeding licence. Only those deemed worthy would be allowed to produce the next generation of the human race.

I would generously offer my services as the head of the breeding licence agency.

carver mate, don't bother to apply for a licence

The self fullfilling prophecy that is the bible states that Armageddon will take care of us all,
& "the Meek shall inherit the earth"
Due to my study of the aforementioned tome, I have concluded that there's a couple of typo's in the original scrolls.Where it says that the chosen 400000 odd shall rise up to heaven, leaving the screamin' heathens to wither in fire & brimstone,it is actually to sooth all those good religious types that have created so much division between peoples over the millenia & who continue to pay Tithes & lip service to the prophet while sinning 6 days out of seven
The other typo is in regards to the number of people spared from the impending doom. Its will be all the hardcore religious fanatics from all denominations that'll actually all fuck off & leave us in peace The figure of 40000 or 400000 ( cant be arsed to check exactly) is totally inaccurate as if you look at the scrolls you can see someone rubbed out an extra zero (or 2) meaning that the true number is approx 4 million,so my reasearch shows that if you take into account the religious types in NZ that'll rise up towards heaven that will leave 4 mill or so still left here.
The other thing is that Palestine is not the "chosen" land" . That was a clever idea to focus all the bullshit there....Imagine what'd happen if they had written that NZ is the chosen land & who in thier right mind would choose a fucking desert anyway?
Sleep in peace my friends, if any place has a shit show of handling "it", its got to be NZ
If you cant sleep then up your meds

Given the humans and the earth a 100% guaranteed to cease to exist at some point, what does it even matter? Enjoy a slice while you can, it won't be here forever.

No it's not. The answer, as Riffer says, is to stop producing useless shit. A TV is a TV, a pair of shoes is a pair of shoes, a car is a car and so on... If you ddon't make it, there's nothing to buy... but there's profit involved and all of those people that would be out of work etc... and you can't legally force private enterprise not to produce But don't worry, those that matter see it your way

Don't worry, Bill Gates and friends have it covered

Wait until he tells you that it was 13 dwarfs who wrote the worlds best seller.
Poor bastards forgot to put their names on the front cover.
Thank goodness they remembered to put their names on the parts they wrote.

They got guest authors to do "fill in" chapters. Rumor stands that JK Rowling wrote the Genesis chapter.

I contend that over population is our single biggest threat, I posted this a while back - didn't get as much feedback as I thought I would...especially seeing as on the surface it appears extremely sexist.

I've been thinking on population control again today for no good reason.

I began contemplating mass contraception, what I arrived at was this:

In times of war governments have no problem imposing conscription or mandatory military service, why? Because they beleive they are fighting for a just and important cause.

What if after giving birth, every women was given an injection, effectively this injection would be a 50/50 lottery as to whether they were given a placebo or a long term birthcontrol drug. Instantly we would bring the birth rates of all countries into decline. All couples would be able to have one child 50% of couples could have 2 or more, 25% could have 3 or more, 12.5% could have 4 or more. But most importantly the birth rate would be less than 2.

Being a blind lottery many ethical considerations could be negated. Negative effects experienced by the Chinese One Child policy would be reduced. By freeing the women of developing countries from constant child rearing they could then engage in education and employment (the only real world non legislative way of addressing birth rates).

With a reducing population the world would have the breathing space it needs to address the environmental problems that we have.

.... back in green and feeling great ....

Capitalism and corporatism require constant growth rather than a politic of enough.

Since you have scarcely learned the elements of self-control, in psychism, you must suffer bad consequences. You draw to yourself the nearest and strongest influences " often evil " and absorb them, and are psychically stifled or narcotised by them. The airs become peopled with resuscitated phantoms. They give you false tokens, misleading revelations, deceptive images. Your vivid creative fancy evokes illusive ministers, and puts into their mouths words coined the instant before in the mint of your mind, unknown to yourself. The false appear as real, as the true, and you have no exact method of detection since you are yet prone to force your communications to agree with your preconceptions.

Maitreya has all the answers- follow the gourd!

actually- on a serious note, mashman and I have been awake enough to notice that something special is happening.
all through winter, a very bright star has been visible at an elevation of about 25degrees in the west.
brighter than any other star or planet. it is there in our sunsets and if it were venus or mars it would have been there only
for a month or so and would rise and set at different times. this is there in the same spot each evening. Its there now and will be till about
9 pm. go look and then read this link above.
Retired- just some guy with a few bikes......
