I think it's all those polygamist marriages and resulting hoard of offspring... No wonder the world's resources are running out.

Here ya go Carver... Jacque Fresco's idea of the future. Pretty much the way it should be and potentially could be. But they don't "promote" a roadmap for the way forwards... you're gonna have to come up with that yourself. Not as hard as you might think , but you still have to "convince" the rest of society... that's the real problem

I guess so. I've never really found a "solid" definition of Communism... there always seem to be theoretical variants and/or translations that muddy the waters, and the fact that some form of financial system has always been involved, accompanied by an all powerful leadership, kinda leans me away from calling it communism... but they do seem to share HUGE similarities... "Resource Based Economy" sounds so much nicerer

    Too Many People

The fundamental problem is too many people. We live on a finite planet where the human animal has been too successful. Arguably we passed population limit at 2 billion.

The consequence is we are poisoning our environment. We are also using up the planets resources which are not unlimited. There is all sorts of evidence of our pollution such as the high rate of extinctions, acidification of the ocean (from absorption of CO2), mass death of bees, frogs etc ad infinitum.

    The answer?

    Either agreed population control with a decline over 5 generations to 2 billion;

Or, continue life as we know it up till about 2030 at which point the biosphere will collapse, mass starvation, wars, disease, general Armageddon-like slow landslide across the globe.

I pick the latter because humans simply do not make hard choices until its too late. But the wealthy nations will have enough resources and weapons to get through - which reverses karma oddly enough.

I don't agree that that's the fundamental problem at all. You understand my feelings towards the financial system i'm sure. That, at this present moment in time, is the fundamental problem. Remove unnecessary resource usage and the planet will start to clean itself. After all, we only need power, food and water to survive anything Between us we have everything we need to survive. I have an Aprilia, which I may lend you , someone else may have a Honda... I've got a lawn mower that uses petrol, a weed whacker that uses lecky... but I could easy replace both with one of the old push powered mowers... after all I still have to walk across the same pieces of grass to mow the same lawn... there are a billion and 1 sensible things we could do to dramatically change our pollution levels (if they're not life threatening to begin with) and resource consumption... You must have a few "savings" you could make yourself?

Other than that I agree with the rest of what you said... but it won't be as pretty as you describe. IF it all goes to shit, the big problem will be the lack of water maintenance and food production. If they're not covered, irrespective of natural disaster or societal implosion, then we're all going to lose, even those that have shit loads of money after all, if the water is tainted or not flowing, we really are fucked. What if the water engineers haven't survived? Who will fix it? no amount of money will find you that person. You can't buy food if it isn't being produced.

There are tough decisions to be made. But the toughest of all (getting rid of the financial system), could well be the one that tips the balance back in the favour of humans... You'll still have to maintain water facilities, you'll still have to produce food whether you have "money" or not. But that's my take

It all started when we gave this planet the wrong name....Earth.
    Its 3/4 water isnt it?

Maybe a new way to start would be to create a new religion?
One we can all believe in
    One that is free
One that suits us all as individuals
One that requires no Diety or prophet
One that we all unknowingly practice nearly every day
    One that needs no handbook
One that encompasses all Denominations, Races, Creeds
    One we can all understand
One that always makes us feel better when we do it
One that we instinctively practice from an early age
One that makes us feel better about ourselves
One that brings out passion , conviction yet is totally non violent
And one that unites all .......

It has a name ......& in these times of plenty when there really should be less of a need for this one universal reliigion, more & more practice it daily.
So to give it a name is important to some , so Ill tell you the word & the word is....WHINING
The Heart is the drum keeping time for everyone....
