    Rubber shims?

I recently bought some risers form the states and ordered the wrong diameter for the forks... working from memory and remembering that the Showas are wider than the Ohlins (but only on the lower triple) ... anyhoo, I had some stainless shims made up, but they don't slide on to the forks, as they're just on the thick side and i'm loathed to go any thinner than a mil. I was thinking lo-tech may actually win the day.

Ahem... would rubber make a good shim? I mean, will it grip, once the risers are torqued, to the fork tube without any "worries" (wet, dry, hot cold etc...)?

    Cheers
