    bearings

Just been out in the garage, fixing, bending, and bashing my bike back into shape, after a wee "high side," off I had last week, and I thought I would do a bit of maintenance on the rest of the bike while I was there. Finding a small problem... one of my front wheel bearings, has fallen apart.
My question is this, does any one in Wellington, know where I can score a new pair from, a bit cheaper than retail. Direct from saeko, they are $30 plus gst each, and I aint gonna have that for a while, what with the babies and wife all needing fed.
any help would be great, cheers guys

You mightn't have to stick to the same make.
SKF make a replacement for just about every type of bearing and they are usually cheaper than factory.

If you can get the very least the dimensions any bearing manufacturer will have them
If you have the number all the better something like 6013 ( Cr250 rear 6004 )
The suffix Z or ZZ or 2Z is for sealed bearing 60042z

Finally you can have the same dimensions and a higher DYNAMIC rating or L10 rating which is a better bearing

Just ring around you local bearing suppliers and see who is the cheapest ,,,,

Failing that MANY ( if not all ) change there bearing when there is HEAP of life left in them ,,,,you may scrounge some free ones from A bearing house or the local bike shop

The act of removing the bearings (ie you push or hamer against the inner via the balls to remove the outer) would prevent me wanting to use them again.

$30 ea is probably right, try replacing the rears on my YZF, think they were $70ea but they felt sorry for me & gave me some mondo trade discount.

I buy bearings from Mana Bearings in Porirua, but then that would be retail. Have you tried them? Any cheaper I guess you got to steal them or buy them trade price if you are in the trade.
    Cheers

You use an offset drift ..heat the outer with the wife hairdryer ...and on the outer race tap bearing out ..they should almost fall out ....FAILING that YUP BIG hammer therapy on the inner race Then Throw bearing in bin ( it still may be ok you would have to look at inner race )

Honda like you to use the special Honda bearing puller ( which cost as much as a small apartment in browns bay ) .. The trouble with the drift method is that if the outer case isnt hot enough, and you tap on One side the bearing doesnt come out square..with potential damage to the hub ... and on the inner race as u said potential damage to the inner

and 70 dollars each ,,,OUCH for a 600X bearing ( not sure of the size for YZF of the top .....but its not going to have a 35 mm ( or some such like) inner race
I would be interested in those bearing Numbers!!!

The YZF has a big-arse axle.

You can use a decent fan heater & just leave it a while till the hub area is pretty toasty.

Yeah, I got a YZF wheel in the front of my bike, and the inside diameter of the bearing is heaps bigger than the FZR one.
Took ages to get gromets made to make the YZF bearings on the FZR axle.

Get in touch with Kiwibiker Tas - he's manager of SKF Bearings in Napier.

He did me a good deal on bearings for my fizzer. He also happens to ride an FZR750 just like yours too...

although he hasn't been on Kiwibiker for yonks.

You never know.... try an email.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

Replaced my front bearings recently, purchased from Mana Bearings, under $20 (including courier) Mind you, we buy a few bearings from them at work so a bit of trade discount may apply....give them a ring they are very helpful

    Bearings

Hey Fizzerman, Tas here. Send me a PM with the numbers off your bearings and I'll see what I can do.
Its not my place to promote or bag one brand of bearing over another. But what I will say is not all bearings are created equal, so dont take the risk on cheap bearings when your life is literally riding on them!
