What a great day for a ride

The old scoot behaved herself, it seems I might have finally ironed out most of the bugs with it now, had a great ride along the summit road overtaking the tourists even if it was a bit of a grind in 2nd on a couple of the climbs. I might even be brave enough to take it a bit further afield next time, as long as I've got the whole day free to get there and home again.

Was good to have a bit of a poke around the bits and pieces at Godley Head (watching out for the bearded bogeyman hiding in tunnels in the dark), enjoying the sunshine and looking at the view.

There is petrol and a small shop in Okains bay.
You might want to check up on that as last time I was over there the shop had closed and they were trying to find someone to take it over. Very reasonable terms too I believe, especially if you had a few kids to bolster the school roll!.

And remember ...... if it hasn't got one of "Uncle Flip's" prosthetic kickers it isn't a real motorbike!!!

I'm still keen, unless it's blowing like a bastard as it seems to be a lot lately.

Hmm, got 165 k's out of 10 litres tonight, and that's from me giving the bike a pretty good thrash. So perhaps 240k's out of a tank at the moment. How big is the trip, Flip?

According to Flips post below, there's fuel available at Okains Bay.

I'm not sure of the planned route, or if one's been planned yet, but ...
This route via Tai Tapu is 86km
This route via Dyers Pass, Teddington, Black Tulip is 88km.
This route via Dyers Pass, Teddington, Port Levy is 81km but includes about 7km of gravel.

All distances are one way, so double to return - in other words you should be fine whatever way we go.

I'd be keen to head to Okains via the 1st route (via Tai Tapu) and back via the 2nd route (via Black Tulip, Teddington). That way we can stop for "refreshments" at the Wheatsheaf on the way back, and it's handier for Flip and Ted to scoot home.

Start outside the Canterbury Mueseum at 10,00 for a 10,30 depature.

I'm not opposed to taking the around bays and going over Gebbies, but its going to be a long ride at 80kph for me as is. There is petrol and a small shop in Okains bay. Again like last time bring your walking shoes, a lunch and some thing to drink. There is a lovely beach which is worth a look see. Okains bay is very popular this time of year so expect to see a few people over there. Just a note about the road, the drop down from the summit road into Okains bay is very steep, I have to be carefull I don't burn my brakes out going down and it's a first gear slog for my old bike coming up.

It's going to be interesting doing the Akaroa GP on Sunday morning, but its nothing to worry about. Keep to the left and let them pass.

I suggest the we or at least the old bikes come back to town in a group. I should have Crowe on standby again with my ute if we need it.

Cheers mate, that 3rd route looks interesting

That's the only one I haven't done before. But I do not care where I go, as long as the bike gets there. Currently the metservice is saying theres a chance of some rain on Sunday. Fingers crossed that this isn't the case. I hope I have recovered well enough to wake up early on Sunday after New Years

I just want to keep it simple:

    http://maps.google.co.nz/maps?f=d&so...,0.438766&z=11

It takes me ages to get the old bike over Dyers at the best of times. We have the climb over the Akaroa on this run.
