Post Recommendations for a quiet beach within 3 hours ride of North Shore

I have the ominous task of helping my partner scatter the ashes of her grandmother this coming weekend. She would like to do it on a quiet beach this weekend (as in, a beach not likely to have other people on it).

Does anyone have any recommendations for a quiet beach (deserted preferably), that is reachable by road, within about 3 hours ride of the North Shore of Auckland?

If you could let me know the name of the road it is accessible by that would be great, so I can find it on Google maps.

how about between Waipu and Mangawhai. Or perhaps along the Old Russell Rd up north, there are plenty of little beaches along the way.

Or maybe that new regional park up SH16 way, Atiu creek regional park, borders alongside the Kaipara Harbour.

Cabbage tree bay, Tutukaka. Between Whale bay & Matapouri by track from whale bay. Early mornin. Ocean side of Ngunguru spit. Foot access only. One of the coves edging the spit on the landward side. Elliots Beach on the Old Russell road. Walk around the rocks at either end.

Metvuw is predicting southerly winds for Sat and light south eastly for sunday, so I'd suggest a north facing beach. How about Pakiri http://maps.google.co.nz/?ie=UTF8&ll...2,0.07021&z=14 or Tawharanui regional park http://maps.google.co.nz/?ie=UTF8&ll...17552&t=h&z=16

Sorry p.dath I didn't read the first paragraph properly and focussed on the need for a quiet beach ...... did not mean to offend the solemn occasion!

Tinopai is pretty cool (family has a batch back at Hukatere) but not much of a beach really.

Maybe not but it's tranquil and you could wander out for a way, urn in hand....be amongst it when the deed is undertaken. (No pun intended.)

Place I call 'forestry' on the south side of Te Arai Point, take the forestry road leading from Ocean View road. Nice isolated beach, may have few people from mid morning if its a nice day.

Anawhata - west coast - take Anawhata Rd off Piha Rd, gravel road and 10min hike but quiet. won't be calm sea's this weekend though.

Waipu is quiet and absolutely stunning. Same with Whananaki. All in the Whangarei-ish area so not overly far from where you live.

Might want to keep it on the low key as you could upset a few people (someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure ashes are only supposed to be scattered a certain distance out at sea, or permission needed? - Not that what you intend on doing bothers me, I'd do the same thing to be perfectly honest)
