FZR1000 airbox Q's

I have a 87 Fizzer thou and the coils are needing replacement, badly. It was going to cost me close to $1000 for a pair of after market ones. I have found some 2nd hand ones to do the job but the leads are designed for mounting under the tank and thus too short to be mounted in the fairing as per OEM. The only way I can make an under tank coil mounting is by removing the bikes air-box and fitting individual K&N type filters. Will this adversely effect the bike? I remember my air-box coming loose of a carb on my Kwacker and it running like crap until I fixed it, are the yammies this temperamental? Or will that require after-marker carbs, which would make those expensive coils look a lot cheaper...

Help please, I am hanging to get my bike back on the road!!

Fz has a great airbox, dont wreak it.

There are parts out there... I know a guy who been through this, I let him know of your plight

The 87 FZR has the best airbox sound ever.

Find a new place to mount the coils. Or talk to Buckets and Bits - they have some coils for your bike.

Better than the MV Agusta, which supposedly has the most wicked intake music?
Better than the VFR800 when both ducts are open (second one opens at 5K rpm)?

Year mate keep that air box on and sus out some coils, Tried running my 85 fz 750 similar motor to yours with individual stacks, in short it ran like crap, spoke to a # of machanics all recommended putting the air box back on, after all Yamaha would not have spent all those millions of $ developing air box tech if they new they could get away with a few stacks and a couple hose clips.

Theres a Fzr 750 for sale on Trademe the coils will fit your bike, current bid is $500.00. All Parts are interchangable with yours including motor.

Don't remove the airbox unless you got heaps of hours for jetting,I tried it on my genesis thou....what a nightmare.And you won't believe the noise that comes through the tank,you'll be deaf in no time.
I mounted the coils under the frame on mine.

NGK make a lead extender if B&B don't have coils. Best to use genuine coils if you can though.

Well bucket and bits have just sold me a pair of 'good' coils for $60 a piece, way under the hundreds I was going to be paying! And on top of that I got a single carb from them to replace the carb with a REALLY REALLY stuck idle air screw for a mere $80!...
