    Guiness World Record Attempt

As promised - Some photos from Sunday.

Mazda NZ sent out the word that they would like to set a new world record for the most single grouping of Mx5's. We did it! 294 cars (all and only Mx5's) it may not seem much, but to be there in person, (and as 1 of the record breaking drivers ) it was a sight to impress. The attempt was held at Alexander Park Raceway (Greenlane, Auckland) we were required to drive in convoy around the track 4 times for the attempt to be official.... (dont ask why???)

This was also the NZ launch of the brand spanking new 2005 MX-5.

Could've been world record for number of hairdressers as well!!

Sorry, just taking the piss. The MX-5 is the biggest selling sports car (true sports car, north/south motor, rear wheel drive, open top) ever. Around 750,000 of these have been sold now. Despite the incredible sales one of the most underated drivers car ever, especially the generation one model. Incredible steering response, light weight, well balanced chassis. There are even race series for this car now in the states and europe. Almost was binned before production, almost became a fwd car (shared platform with the 323/Familia range). Solely responsible for cars like the MGF, BMW Z3, Porsche Boxter, Toyota MR-S to name just a few.

If you've never driven one, go out and test drive one soon. Awesome, fun filled car.

Drop a rotor in it. Screw the rotors, stupid bloody cars.

Rotored mx5's are craploads of fun. You'd be giving the quickest, most sideways haircuts in town.

Glad you broke the record. Found out about it last Thursday when a customer dropped in the flyer wanting me to take my MX5 up, couldn't attend though had already registered for a hot rod run instead.

Does the 13B (12A) bolt straight in (like the rear-wheel 323s)?

No. it's a major swap. The crank centreline is much higher than the 4 cyl.
The hot set-up a couple of years ago was a KIA 2l (same block as the Mazda)
with various turbo set-ups. 300-350hp at the wheels in road trim and 500-600 for the strip. There were also some Eaton supercharger conversions hitting over three hundred with flatter torque curves than the turbos.
These road versions would eat Z6 Corvettes and Vipers at least to 200 km/h.
    Speed doesn't kill people.
    Stupidity kills people.

My work mate reckons he put a twin hairdryer (300kW yeah right) in his and he tried to show me how fast it was around a corner at work with me in it, it was horrible. I go around that corner that fast everyday on my commute.
